Nokta FoRs Gold, a Gold Cube, 2 Keene Sluices and Lord only knows how many pans....not to mention a load of other gear my wife still doesn't know about!
Can't help with an ID, but I was able to take your image and enhance it sufficiently
so all of the lettering and markings are easy to read. Hope this helps someone
else determine it's origins for you.
IV stands for the month this shell was manufactured (4th month of the year is April). Obviously 1940 is the year it was manufactured. And the "Z" stands for where the shell was manufactured. In this case Zbrojovka, Brno, Czechoslovakia. Hope this helps!
uh for european folks WW2 started in sept of 1939 with the invasion of poland * (americans since we did not join in until dec 7th 1941 think thats when WW2 started-- only for america did the war start in 1941 --most of the european powers they had already been at war for over 2 years!-- the nazi's took over check gun and ammo plants during the war making good use of them -- the nazi 's had many mausers made there at the brno plant
if the round is normal rifle sized ammo its most likely a april of 1940 check made 8mm mauser sized round to fit a mauser rifle or a 8 mm machine gun
what size units is the ruler showing? inches or metric ?
There seems to be more letters/numbers besides the "G" and "49". Are you able to clean the shell up a little bit more? Or perhaps decipher what else is there?
