Sea Shell ID

I found this shell at an Indian campsite along the W Okaw River here in IL. It doesn’t look like it’s been worked or drilled. I’ve never seen a fresh water shell like this here. We only have mussel shells. I found Florida fighting conchs near Clearwater once but this one is different than those. Is this a shell from the Gulf or Atlantic?

I should add something here. My deceased wife used to save seashells to use as decorations. One she picked up many years ago turned out to be rather rare. So just because it doesn't look extraordinary, doesn't mean it's worthless!

It’s helped me a few times to ID items I’ve found, but take that info with a grain of salt.

We call them Cones here in Florida. They are a common tropical shell and variants are found in the tropical and semi tropical oceans around the world. Most Florida cones are called Alphabet Cones. That one is a little different.
