This is my first post. I started CRH after a co-worker told me about it last Friday. I live in NC. Anyway, last Friday after work i went to my local bank. I asked if they had a box of dimes. I was told yes but why do you want a box of dimes? I told the tell I owed $250 worth of child support. She looked at me like I was the devil. I told her I was just kidding and that I collect coins. She got be a box. I then asked her if she had any Half's. She said I could get $160 worth. I took them. Long story short. I got Nada from the dimes and 2 1964 Kennedy's and 1 1967 Kennedy. That was last Friday. Since then, I went through $1250 of dimes and over $1000 worth of half's. Only thing I got was a 1976 Kennedy what was 40% silver because it had a S mark. Thats 6 skunk boxes of dimes and 2 skunk boxes of Half's. I hit Wells Fargo, BofA, BB&T, and others. Did I just have beginners luck? Should I just keep on trying? I need some words of Encouragement. I don't expect to find silver every time but after reading about people getting 1 silver dime per box, I feel a bit cheated.

I've read several threads about crh and to be honest I can't see how it's worth the time. unrolling, rerolling, going to banks to get them then back to others to dump them. Seems like collecting aluminum cans from the roadside would be more profitable and you'd get exercise
Around here it's a lot easier to turn cans into cash then it is to turn halves into folding cash. To dump halves I drive around a hundred miles, to cash in cans, 2 miles.

Why does it always have to be about profit?

This is the most addicting thing I've ever done in my life.. And I only do Cents :D try getting $50.00 in Cents when you go to your bank next time. You might find wheats, indians, Copper <-- My favorite. It helps me for morale ;p

Once you found that first silver coin you should have gotten a rush something you have never felt before, and to feel it again you must keep hunting.

Amen brother! And the longer the skunk streak, the more you enjoy your next score!!

It doesn't have to be about profit. If you like rolling coins for fun have at it. I bet you'd get more 90%'s putting an ad in the paper. Just seems a lot of time invested for little gain.

just my opinion. as the President said 'please proceed'

need some encouragement??

Personally, I don't care for rolling coin, therefore, I don't. I do find hundreds of silvers each year at face value, and I still buy 90% coin. It's a little time invested for the thrill of finding hundreds of silver coins. Not opinion, just fact.

I just finished my first box of halves and all I got was one 40%er I was getting discouraged till I stated looking through nickels and found two war nickels. I had a lot more luck with hand rolled but they dry up quick and there aren't too many banks by mean that have them.

I also stated collecting state quarters and other quarters I know they're not silver but its fun and that way I find something.

The same could be said for MDing, I've spent a few hours out and come home with pull tabs and bottle caps and some clad coins, worth it, no, fun and a great hobby, yes. It just depends on if you enjoy it, I enjoy both hobbies, but don't really profit big from them, but there is allways that great find that we search for and thats why we do it. HH, Maverick.

Aside what Digesting says, this hobby is just that, a hobby, and you shouldn't expect to make money at it. At least not right away. Also, aside from what Digesting says, there are some rules for ordering and dumping that you should familiarize yourself with before getting too deep into the hobby.

One question. What part of NC are you from? I ma in the Southport/Wilmington area.

To answer the Op, you haven't done enough yet, and what you did search, you did very well. I have been hardened by this hobby to accept the 10-15 box skunk streaks that have become the norm for me before getting a box that may give up 15 Silvers or 1 Silver. The key is to keep searching, it is a long and slow process, it takes LOTS of patience and dedication to do this hobby, Youtube vids only show you the better side of this hobby, no one wants to watch Youtube vids of people searching skunk boxes, which happens way more than producing boxes. HH, Maverick.

To follow up on what Maverick just said, I have only found 1 40%er in a box since the first of November. You have to have real thick skin and keep pushing through if you want to make this a real hobby for you.

That's exactly what I do. I do it for all denominations, that way, I never get skunked (I do sometimes, but I always find something good sooner or later!)

i would look for the half dollars!
