need to take a pic of bottle bottom

I am trying to take a picture of the writing on the bottom of a Clear bottle, but because it is clear, you cant see the writing. Can anyone give me a few pointers on how to get a good pic??

Try a strong light, behind or off to side,
of the the bottle.

Maybe moisten the bottle bottom, put it in loose dirt, then wipe away the highlights.

Rub some charcoal, or something dark, on the embossing.

If all you are interested in is photographing the raised lettering on the bottom, have a friend
hold the bottle over a flashlight in a dimly lit room while you and your camera move around
the bottle until you see as much lettering detail you need.

Why not take a pic of the bottle and then just post what the writing says? Seriously though take the pic from a slight angle with no flash, try it outside to get natural light.

Try this. If you have a flatbed scanner open the lid set the bottle on it & scan as you would a document. Works great for a lot of stuff & you don't have to worry about exposure of back / side lighting etc.

White paint will highlight the letters. See this a lot at bottle shows..

Have your ighting behind you and off to the side and try without flash..Matt
