Hello today was my first try and I have to admit it was fun.

I bought 300$ worth of halves and found 4 40%ers

2 1967s
1 1966
1 1969

Is this typical?

Yes 1 silver per box is average.

Most boxes are less than that, so I'd say you're above average

That's pretty good, above average. You'll have long periods of time were you don't find anything, and other times when you clean up. I average just under 2 40%ers per box and just under 1 90% for every 2 boxes. That being said, most boxes either have 1 40% and zero 90%, it is the really killer boxes, that may take months or years to find, that make those averages seem higher
