Well, I thought I'd go to the bank (where I know the tellers) and get $1000 of halves.

They had to order them from the reserve bank (so far so good) and they came in a sealed bag of 48 pounds.

Well 2,000 halves later, it looked as if a whole committee of you guys had already gone through the bag. It seemed like the most numerous was the 1971s, but that could have been my bias.

Bottom line: Nada, as in ZIP.

Hours wasted, about 4. Knowledge gained: Don't do this again.

Maybe I'm just living up to my handle......................

Don't give up yet. I am doing 7 bags a week and I am averaging 5 skunk bags(that's 10,000 dumps) each week. When you hit a bag with 300 keepers,it sure makes up for the trouble. One question for you. Are you searching for silver or checking all the dates. My 80 year old father in law and I go through 7 bags in just over 2 hours. We don't check dates, we are just hoarding silver.
Give the bag thing another try or at least find out where the bags are coming from. If loomis is bringing your bank its bags, try to find another source. Maybe another town close by. I am just using Loomis as an example,it could be anyone. If your bank is selling you a bag that they filled up in their lobby, there is a good chance your neighbors used your bank as a dump. If your bank says they got the bag from another branch, the dump effect is still there. Good luck, Jim

Having had 34 skunks in 38 boxes, and NEVER having found "300 in one bag", (Or 300 ... or 30!!! total in 38 boxes!) I can understand him.

I still get halves. But ONLY customer wrapped or loose halves. I've gotten two Bens this year, and a fair amount of silver. But I can get 3 silvers in $20 of customer wrapped coin, and get 0.0000 silver in a box. So I don't order boxes anymore. I'm not grumbling. It just doesn't work "here" So I do pennies, I sometimes work nickels, and I get all the losse halves I can. And that makes me happy, becaue it is what works here.

I think some areas have been hit harder than others, and althought there must be "some" silver in this area (Or I would not get it in the loose coin and customer wraps) the odds are so small that it makes no sense to search here. And I know of NO ONE in Phoenix that has had consistent, even if miimal, success with halves in boxes or bags in the past year. Not one person.

Maybe it is the same in his area.

So move on to something else, and find what works where you are. :-)

So you get the equivalent of 2 boxes and they are skunks. Welcome to the world of CRHing. Be lucky that you can get bags. Dump, buy more and keep trying.

Normally I would try to encourage you to keep trying.

But you found us out.
We are a bunch of dweebs wasting our time seearching dirty old germy coins.
(everwonder how many hands have touched all those halves?) Yukk.

Get out now while your ahead.

Thank god you didn't find anything or you would be hooked so bad. you would ruin your family and relationships. and you wouldn't be able to stop talking about it to family and friends driving them away. They will run and hide from you and avoid you if you ever start finding stuff.

Soooo Good for you your really one of the lucky ones who hasn't been caught in the grip of this disease called CRH
