Just when you think you have this hobby figured out you dig up something you never expect! Today I hunted with my hunting partner Ryan at the front side of some old buildings that had
a sloped area. This slope had dead dry grass in an area about 40' wide by 150' long. the usual items were being dug up like clad dimes, clad quarters, and the usual Lincolns. I detected a signal that
was shallow at only 2 inches and out pops this BIG Coin! It's a silver eagle bullion coin from the US Mint! I've never known of anyone to ever find one of these! What was that coin doing here?
It made my day! It was my only silver for the day. Also dug up 3 wheaties and a little over $4.00 in clad. Ryan dug up a mercury dime later that day, so we both went home with silver!

That is an awesome silver

Awesome find! I can only recall a couple posts were someone found an American Eagle while detecting.

rut roh, someone lost a nice collector coin!, good on you for snatching it up!!!!

Rather unusual for you to find - maybe more unusual for someone to lose that - They do show up here once in a blue moon , Nice Find.

That's a rare find, especially a painted one. I actually got two painted Washington quarters for change at a 7 Eleven about 10 years ago. They're not silver though.

You have to wonder how it got there. Those are collectible. Maybe some kid got into grandpa's collection and dropped one on the way to spend it on candy and soda.

Lucky for you it got there one way or another.

Beautiful big chunk of silver. Congratulations.

Yeah, sounds like someone's kid or grandkid got into their collection. Nice recovery.

it always amazes me when someone digs one of those, considering that they were not made for circulation, there is really no explanation for them ever being outside of someone's house. but, who knows? people do strange things

As close to the road as that appears to be, I would have probably skipped over it thinking it was a beer or soda can. Glad you decided to dig it.

Betcha some kid got a real scolding from his Mom when he arrived home and told his parents he'd lost his silver coin! :sadsmiley:
That's why you never let this kinda stuff leave your house! :laughing7:

Very nice find Fluke,
Dave
