All Treasure Hunting
Both found on the same very trashy property just south of downtown Raleigh.
I only found 1 clad quarter on the site.

The Token says Hardees Fun Machine Coin of which iv`e only been able to find plastic ones on-line.
Any ideas on a date?

The other is a printing plate? Very heavy like it contains lead.
I can read North Carolina at the top and at the bottom walton?
No clue what this could be any help on either item would be greatly appreciated.

I think its No pealing. :icon_scratch: What kind of food preparation would require pealing? Maybe its a paint additive. :dontknow:

Maybe its an advertisement to eat more rice and less potatoes. :tongue3:

I agree with the paint additive or household cleaner, and I think it is a printer's plate for a paper label that would have been on the product. Judging by the size of the plate, it must have been a pretty small bottle. No pooling or no peeling would go along with paint.

Maybe Bramblefind can use her sources to find an older Walton company in Raleigh, NC.

Im still leaning toward eat more rice, less potatoes, no peeling, homemakers everyday are switching to rice, for busy housewives, prepares quickly, simply add WondeRice...etc. I didnt even know what rice was growing up in the 50's. We were strictly meat and potatoes.

WondeRice is so ? If we could figure that word would be another clue.

BCH, I think you've got it! :headbang: It all sound logical to me. Lucas, yes, I think it is the Walton Rice Mill in Stuttgart AR. I saw one reference that was dated 1919, so we know it's been around since then. Maybe it was originally in Arkansas, and then branched out to NC. Breezie

I meant to say growing up in the 50's and 60's. I was born in the 50's. I didnt know what rice was growing up in Pittsburgh. I thought it was Chinese food. Has anyone else had this experience? I didnt know what grits were either.

This is to heavy for just zinc.
I`m guessing its of a pewter composition.
Trying to photograph the back now.

Thanks for your reply`s guy`s.

Lynotype used by printers is a cast alloy of lead and antimony. Comes out much harder than pure lead. Like what is currently used for wheel weights.

bigcypresshunter i have the same issues with grits and rice. We used to think Dads car would automatically pull into Hardees or McDonalds. :laughing9:
Tried many more pics to try to find the end of Wonderice is so / with no luck. Next comes the microscope or a scan on my scanner of the word in question.

Breezie you were a great help and inspiration. How`d you flip that pic, with windows pic program?

I found quite a lot of references to Walton Rice Mills and Wonder Rice (WondeRice?). But most are AR, not NC.

Lucas thanks for the info I also found AR. and dismissed it because I`m in NC.
Wonder how it got here?
It was found behind a boarded up house south of Shaw University.

Special thanks go out to timekiller and 4-H for their added input.

Happy Hunting All and good luck

Bill, you're welcome. I always enjoy interesting finds like this one. As far as it traveling to NC from AR, I would say that would be a 'cake-walk' in comparison to some of the items I've found in NC that were originally from Europe. LOL BCH, I too grew up in the 50s/60s, and potatoes were more of a staple food than rice, although we did eat it, but not as often. Breezie

The lynotype is a NC advertisement and says so on the first line. Only the company is from Arkansas (according to this hypothesis).

A search of Google Books may come up with the old advertisement. That is how Bramblefind solved the egg timer and some others.

It must be one of the first fun machine tokens. If you can clean it up the Hardee's Charco-Broiled Memorial would be interested in posting it on their website.

About Hardee's Charco-Broiled Memorial [1960-1997]

This group is a memorial to the "Charco-Broiled" days of yesteryear at the classic Hardee's hamburger chain!

The Hardee's restaurant empire was founded in North Carolina in 1960. In 1997, Hardee's was bought out by CKE, owner of the Carl's Jr. fast food chain. Since then, the make-over has been underway, converting many Hardee's into Carl's Jr., merging the two menus and even shutting down some Hardee's locations.

This group is focused on the years 1960-1997, prior to the Carl's Jr. buy-out.

Submissions may include items such as -- old restaurant photos, signs, memorabilia, food packaging, logos, etc. prior to 1997. Kid's meal boxes are fine if they feature the old Hardee's logo. No kid's meal toys except for those featuring the old 1970s Hardee's mascots (which are very much welcomed!)
