Today I pulled this thing out of the dirt at an old spot that I have been hitting lately. It seems to be reeded, kinda lika a harmonica but round. The whole business is 7" long. The round, reeded piece is 2 1/2".

Thanks for any help, VPR

They are reeds for sure. The shape is correct for a round music box or horn. The thread I posted shows one with a crank.

This is an old post. I just brought it back up to tell vermontpackrat its basically solved.

Wow. Yeah, I've never seen something like that before either.

Things like that are the reason I decided to start picking (like the guys on American Pickers) for a hobby.

I don't care if I make a profit because I won't pay much for things anyway... to me it's about the fun of finding old things and the mystery of wondering what they are.

I'd like to be able to identify things like that though so I have some learning to do. Today was my first pick, in my friend's new barn after helping him move. Exciting. Old owner left a collection of tack that my friend is selling at auction. All he let me keep of the stuff I found was some stoneware jugs.

But as for what you found... not sure. I would have guessed it would be something from a motor though.
