Hey all, I'm brand spankin new to all of this, but I'm marching in like a brave little kid with a pocket full of buffalo nickels. I'm mostly an amateur coin collector, but interested in bigger stuff too. One question for all you pros: best metal detector for a beginner? Cheaper the better...

Welcome to Tnet. Don't buy too cheap and don't buy too expensive when startin out, cause you'll wind up thinkin 'what a piece of crap'. I bought a White's Classic Coinmaster. Real simple. One knob, one tone. Man I raked in the stuff with that. I used it every day and learned it. I now have a DFX, which is very advanced for me, and sometimes think 'what a piece of crap!' I won't promote one brand, cause I've seen some good finds with Garrett, Bounty Hunter, Tesoro, and on and on. Lots of dealers on here. You might contact Mike at Woodland Detectors.
