New detecting show, "dig Fellas" on travel channel?!

Wow Jeff,Maynard C.Krebs!I bet most of the readers are old enough to know who he was.

I enjoy the show over all...Have to use the mute button a little though, especially when the wife passes through the room. LOL...I got happy for the one that found the buckle at the CW site in Kentucky...

Cheeze and Rice...... going overboard on these shows. And none of them really do show the hours that we really put in detecting, the bugs, snakes, critters, and nasty people. They really don't show the real detectorists that we are.

You said it, Lady Pirate. I went through all of that today and got rained out to boot. Just a button to show for it, and chiggers.:censored:

Like the shows? ... guess ya don't find much huh? ;) Detect vicariously through fictitious swinging on tv?
Maybe you need a new hobby? :)

Maybe you need to surrender your hobby to the new crowd.

I may or may not be in the minority, but I enjoy the Diggers show. I too enjoy their enthusiasm. Sure it's over the top. If it wasn't, it would put me to sleep.....like golf and Nascar. These guys have the same goofy humor as my brothers and I do. Makes it fun. Yes, they can dig some pretty ugly holes, and that's not a good thing, but it's usually in fields where it doesn't matter. I'm not at all uptight about these shows. You have to watch them from what they are.....entertainment.
Looking forward to seeing what DigFellas is all about. I haven't watched any of this guy's videos. I'll look them up.

HH everybody! !
Lance
Glad to see someone gets it...its just a show...people take stuff way to serious.

The new crowd being? The "cool" ones who pretend. :laughing7: No, I think I'll stay old school and keep the hobby the way it was without ridiculous tv shows.

I thought that was the kind of reply you were fishing for...no hard feelings.

Well... Some will hate this. I am a metal detectorist BECAUSE of the show Diggers. I have been exploring historic sites and collecting various relics my whole life. I spend every extra day I get out in the most remote places I can find. I read books, and go find the places I read about in the books. But until I saw that show I never considered using a metal detector to help my searching. I can't explain why, but when I thought of metal detecting I just thought people used them to find gold, or I thought of people lazily swinging away through a city park looking for loose change and modern jewelry.

When I saw that show, and I saw the guys digging up evidence to support the history of a site...It just clicked. Of all the things I have found on the surface, if I had a metal detector what could I find just below the surface? So a few months ago I got a metal detector (and then a better one about a month later) and have been detecting every chance I get since then.

So honestly, I like those shows, but now I wish they would go away so they don't create any more competition for all my great sites! Lol. Just kidding of course (kind of).

But really, metal detecting has been one of the most enjoyable activities I've experienced and I really have KG and Ringy to thank for it...

Not fishing for anything.... well maybe except for metal, in actual conditions, and not something made up for tv. ;)

To be honest I don't care about the shows a whole lot because I'm guessing most of the people I'm getting permission from are drinking beer and watching hockey.

PS: I'd watch the detecting shows before I'd watch hockey!

I have actually dug with these guys. Both a wealth of knowledge, pointed out things I didnt think of in a spot that I have hunted for a while repeatedly. The bugs chased us out bugs were terrible in New England this summer. Howard is an amazing historian, and his love and excitment for history is amazing. They are both great guys they actually detect for the hobby rather then a profit, unlike some other shows, not gonna mention any.

U serious hockey is the only sport worth watching. They actually hit each other unlike the nfl.

And therein lies our problem.....

I saw the advert on another digging show that has teams competing against each other. I will catch it for sure but Garrett seems to be behind Diggers and now this show might be another money maker for Garrett.

I saw this show its calles Digging wars and three teams try to out dig each otherthis show i like no yelling or running across the field when somebody ealse finds something

The problem being?

The "Dig Fellas" are definitely not fools.
I heard they've both been swinging fro 30 years each...
Bill wrote a lot of field test article and he was a spokesperson for Fischer for a long time. He was in all the Fischer ads too.
I used to Bill on the cover of Treasure Magazine!!

At least we know they aren't some fake dudes like the ones from Diggers. They came out of nowhere! These guys Bill Ladd and Howard Hewitt have been around a long time.

I'm gonna check it out tomorrow at 8PM

I'don't know, looks like another Boom Baby without the Screaming

Piece of a Spanish Chest ? maybe they were joking but it was to hard to Tell.

At least with the diggers, it would have been obvious if they were joking,
as they would have pulled out a Spanish Can tab from Black beard final can of Bud :laughing7:

Or a pirates Zincoln cent collection.

Clothes were way too colorful for my taste too :(
I have to watch though , if they were going to a Haloween Party,
it may have fit, But looked like he was trying to dress like a Pirate or a Dandy :(
instead of a detectorist. of course could also just be a matter of personal taste.
I hear some people actually wear Suits & Shiny Black shoes every day for Work :tongue3:
