First of all I want to thank everyone for what they have shared here, I’ve lost count of the time (and lost work hours :laughing7: ) I’ve spent here and vicariously hunting though your posts, and reminding me of that kid-like wonderment we get when finding these mundane pieces of ancient life.
These days I don’t get to get our much, basically none at all, for hunting anyway. New home, work in the middle of town, any chance I get to look at bare dirt (no matter the chances of finding anything) I always end up looking at that rock with the odd shape / color. And keep getting asked “why are you looking at the dirt?”
I grew up on a tobacco farm, till I was 13. Then I hated those damn plants. But man, allot of stuff my mom said to me at the time make a heck of a lot more since now than they did back then! Another reason I’ll never part with these rocks. They are a connection to more than just ancients.

What I have below are some of the pieces that survived my teenage years, my older brothers making jewelry… my wife, when I mistakenly thought she could have some interest in this stuff, screamed and dropped (more tossed into the air! :BangHead:) one of them when I had told her it could possibly have been old enough to have been used to kill a mammoth, mastodon or some other animal that has been extinct for 10,000 years. (acctualy don think I have any Palio, hope Im wrong tho.)

Anyway, here is my tiny collection of field finds, if I’m lucky one day I’ll add to them!
If anyone could provide a ID to the ones held, I’ve done allot of reading and have a decent idea of what I have but these I’m questionable about.

All came from the same farm in central NC near Alamance / Gilford Co.

You have some really nice stuff NC Flake!!!
Congrats and thanks for posting...

Reminds me, anyone heard from NCPeaches?

Nice finds and thanks for sharing. What do you think the 3rd one down is? Just a guess would be great. Looks almost like a knife of sorts.

Thanks for the comments and welcomes. Glad to share anything I have least I could do!

My best guess is that it is a Gilford round base, or a preform Gilford.
But to my very unknowledgeable eye it seems too wide.

I would like some input on the last held piece though, looks to be a knife and the only things I have seen close to it were archaic pieces. Id love to put a name to it!

Welcome aboard!
I'm guessing the last one may be a Guilford Yuma or round base with a broken tip.. I think you may be holding it upside down.

Upside down? HA! shows how much I know, never even thought of that!
From looking around though not comon to my area I dont think this is the closest match I could make on it. A benton.

The steep median ridge on your piece makes me lean more towards Guilford.
See how its much higher in the middle and would have a diamond shaped cross section.
Here is one of mine.

Actually in photo #7 I see three broken Guilford points all missing the tip.

Makes since, thanks for the lesion!

The subtle differences in types really throw me off.
Makes it more of a heart breaker if that is what it is, I can’t find another example of one the size of this one.

It is a big one.

Welcome aboard. We all live through each others hunts and finds. I do not know the types in your area. The second has those rounded off ears like a morrow men. I have never sen a benton sharpened down like that but that does not many anything. I have a few Bentons I have found. They are a very under rated point type . Welcome to artifacts glad they survived the wife and kids :laughing7:
