New here with today 1800's Copper find
Hello treasurehunter, this is my first official thread so just a little intro....I live in Bergen County NJ, and started mding about a month ago. I received a BH Platinum as a X-mas gift and after a few days of detecting, I got really hooked and absolutely love the hobby. So much so that I've started a minelab fund
.......I was walking out to my car with the detector and a nice guy walking by with a stroller noticed the detector and mentioned he was a detectorist too.....long story short he mentioned this great site and how helpful everyone is here....
So after getting to know my BH it has become much more enjoyable, I decided to hit my yard once again and was blown away when today I pulled an 1814, 16 Skilling out of the ground. I had never seen one before and the copper has not done well in the Jersey soil however there was still enough legible lettering to finally figure out what I had in my hands. It was an 1814, 16 Skilling and was around 8-9 inches deep. I did find 2 smaller sized copper coins 2 weeks back but neither had any markings left and I actually thought they might not be coins at all. However with my find today only 10 feet from the others, I can safely say they are skillings as well, just smaller denominations. I have posted up some pics with a Washington quarter for size comparison as well as an image of my newly found coin from a site on the net for comparison. Please comment as to what these were worth in their time and when they may not have been useable any longer.
It's really incredible to picture what my neighborhood may once have looked like 200 years ago.....or whenever it was that these coins were lost.
Eddie
Date faintly visible

Some letters that helped id it

Reverse with size Comparrison

What she use to looked like

Smaller Skillings no markings

If anyone knows what the smaller coppers are for sure, please let me know.
Thanks again
