I'm new to this site and have never really done much metal detecting . I've recently purchased a couple detectors and could really use some advice on looking for some buried silver coins that my Great Great Grandfather hid long years ago. I have 6 acres to search over and not real sure how to even begin being I've never done nothing like this before. Growing up I heard the stories many times that my GG Grandfather didn't use banks instead buried his money in mason jars behind his house somewhere on his land. If anyone has any advice or ideas on how I should get started it would be greatly appreciated.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all, I am new to this site too, ans well as, i am a newbie to MDing. Actually my dad bought me a metal detector in 1977, and I loved the thrill of hunting with it then, but have not held one since. Now, I just hesitantly bought a GBPro off of e bay for $355 today. I really didn't think I was gonna win it for that price, and had anticipated buying one from Kellyco on Black Friday. Now that I won it, What worries me is if it functions properly with that low of a price, and the seller was also new to e bay. I should have it around this saturday or so. The seller gave me ten days to let him know if it works correctly, and I have 45 days for my e bay buyer protection. My question is this: Is there an easy way to test this detector out to see if it is functioning correctly, and in a timely manner? Thanks for any help I can get on this, and I look forward to getting to know some people on here and maybe do some hunting together.

Welcome! The best way to test it is to use it, go out in your lard and see what you find. Read the manual first. Then practice waving targets in front of the coil.

Thanks....and welcome to you too OZARKS!
Look forward to learning more about detecting. This seems to be a great site...I have read many threads before making a decision on what metal detector to buy. Some very wise Metalists on here it seems!
