Welcome to the forum! What type of hunting would you like to do? What is your budget?...etc. These are but a few questions we need to help you make a solid decision. Although, for a great all around detector reasonably priced, as Dirt Warrior stated is the Garrett AT Pro. There other great machines made by other companies. Research the machine(s) that suite your budget, conditions and hunting style.

Welcome to Tnet, When it comes to a detector, I started with a cheapo($80), used it for about 2 months then upgraded to a mid level machine ($399 retail) that I bought used for $295. After 5 more months I then went to an advanced detector ($1099 retail), again I bout it used for $800. Going from the mid level machine weighing 2.9 lbs which I could swing for 8 hours without any issues to the advanced detector which weighs 3.5 lbs. The weight does make a difference. I can only swing it for about 6 hours per day currently, but I am sure my right arm will get stronger and the 3.5 lb detector will get used 8 hours per day very soon. Many brands to choose from, I did not mention any brands on purpose. You can't go wrong with any of the main manufacturers.

Welcome Aboard! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting your state for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

However, you did mention you are from "Pocahontas" and Pocahontas was a Virginia Indian notable for her association with the colonial settlement at Jamestown, Virginia. So, maybe you are located in Virginia - if you are - take a look at Sub-Forums: Virginia for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.
