New M6 on the way.. I wanted a mxt pro but...

I think I might just keep my detectors and eventually sell one to get a sovereign for the beach or something ... I am not quite sure I am doing the correct move in giving everything away just to get to test an etrac that might even be a disappointment, or nothing more than what I already have... I still haven't even see the mx5...

No doubt. The MXT with the 950 coil in an air test I conducted earlier toady, will actually give you nickels at 11" with the use of a low threshold setting. That beep breaking in on the hum is one of the most beautiful sounds in the world. I love the 300 12" on my M6 for the beach. Its designed for silent operation and on those highly mineralized 1715 beaches, threshold can drive you crazy. The M6 runs more quite and even more stable with the 12". I have been digging 8-10" looking for pieces of metal so small that they make it through my sifter !!!!!! Happened today. Had to get out the pin pointer and go through my shakings to find a piece of a zipper .... the thing you pull and a glasses frame hinge. To find either item in 8-10" of moist sand is great.

On the other hand, I have the feeling that the MXT will be a precision coin / relic machine and hope try it for some Civil War hunts in GA. It seems that the Civil War relic guys that I've had the chance to speak with are all Whites guys ..... kind of funny, but I must have spoken to 15-20 DFX & MXT users. That's all those guys use !!!

Just remember that a guy who can read a beach and fully understands his machine, is far more dangerous than someone with the latest and greatest machine that has no idea what he's doing.

I know the whites pretty well... That is for sure...

I agree, maybe I'm just not buying into the Minelab hype. I understand tat they are good ......... really good, its just that if they were by far the best, then why would anyone need anything else? The way I hear people talk about the ETrac you'd think that it just sucked the money out of the ground.

Agreed 100% that is what I was saying, if they are sooooo good why people sell them? Why is it that I already have 3 offers of 3 different users wanting my whites for their etracs? I am starting to doubt all the etrac hype myself. I put it to faith, I just made an offer on a whites coil, if my offer is accepted than I keep my detectors and forget about the etrac if it's refused than I will keep thinking.....

How do you like MXT / 10"DD D2 together? I've spoken to people at Whites that say they he trouble keeping that coil in stock. The people at Whites seem to think the 950 may the best all around coil for that line of detectors, although they always mention the D2 before the conversation ends.

Yep MXT Pro with 10" we D2 ............could be VERY cool

Well my offer was accepted... I am keeping the whites and still be selling the Tesoro to fund a future water detector.... As for the mxt with the d2... Well that was a great setup... I had it when I had my v3i and it worked very well...

The D2 is an awesome deep coil for sure, though it is bad in high EMI area's probably because its so sensitive but that's what makes it such a deep coil. I can get dimes at 10" easy with that coil running at +2 gain, any higher than that and it gets a little hard to hear those deep whisper targets. I have got a few dimes at 12" before and sometimes they will be so deep that once you cut a plug and break the soil matrix you won't get a signal at all, that's when I'll go ahead and take out 12 to 14" of soil and its usually a deep silver dime. The D2 coil is what I use 95% of the time as I'm afraid of missing an old deep coin. HH

D2 coils are better in high EMI areas than a concentric coil, not worse.

Most DD coils are however the D2 coil is worse in high EMI area's than my 950 coil is by far. HH

Mine was too wingmaster.

I appreciate everyone's input!

Would my MXT Pro hooked up to a D2 DD 10" be a good pairing a at the beach? Compared to my 950 or 12" 300 coil Is it that good? In other words is it $250.00 good? LOL

I can't really say if it would be good at the beach but on dry land its a killer deep coil which separates good for being a big coil, maybe someone else who has used it at the beach will chime in. The D2 coil is $250.00 good for dry land detecting for sure, when I got my first one it was on a Christmas deal at $100.00 off so I paid $150.00 for it but that's been a few years ago and I liked it so well that I bought another at full price just to have an extra in case something goes wrong with the other one. I also bought another MXT for a backup and so a friend could use it so both my MXT's have a D2 coil on them. HH

Well I should change the title on this thread..... It just happened... I got an mxt pro.... I traded my mx5 (plus some cash) for a mxt pro with the d2 coil... Now I got the m6 and the pro, with the following coil combinations: eclipse 950, 6x10dd, 5.2 and d2.... I am pretty much set up... Now it's just a matter of time before it gets here... Oh and NO learning curve, I know my m6/mxt very well ....

Let us know how you like the MXT Pro tones compared to the M6 tones. I haven't used the Pro but, have used the regular MXT. I like my M6 better because of the tones. Would like to get a comparison of the two.

Shouldn't they be the same?

I would think they would be, but, never having used the MXT Pro I don't know.... I know the MXT has 2 tones (high pitch/low pitch) when used in Alternate Relic Mode , but they are not my cup of tea.

Well yeah the mxt and mxt pro have their differences... The multi tone of the pro should be like the one on the m6, anyhow when I get it I will confirm. One other thing that is different is that the pro doesn't have the pull tab notch, as the mxt, I personally never used it anyway but...

They each have their pro and cons and I am sure that the MXT Pro has it's applications and is at least versatile.

I have talked to more than one person has told me that the 950 will out perform the 950 consistently on the beach. The 12" is also highly effective as it covers more ground, yet you will have reduce the sensitivity about 20-30% in wet sand for optimal performance.
