The day started off fairly poorly, I hit a cellar hole I found at the end of last year. I had found a LC and a few other goodies, but I could tell it had been hit hard before. I spent a couple of hours there without any luck and decided to head back and see if I couldn't find a new site.
As fate would have it, I ended up passing by this old Victorian house I've had my eye on. It had been abandoned for a while, and there is now some activity going on. I pulled into the drive and knocked on the door and chatted up the new owner. He was open to me detecting, turns out the house dates 1830!!!
Since it was a rental and also abandoned for the past 2 years, and as the new owner said "taken over" by drug dealers I wasn't sure what I'd find.
I found the main door to the house put on my smallest coil and let the eTrac do the rest!!!
The first 3/4 of the front section was just a trash and modern coin fest, it wasn't until the front started sloping down towards a stone wall that my luck began to change.
I got a nice 12-44 signal on the eTrac, thinking I had myself another clad dime, only to pull out a tiny size 3 sterling ring with a script "L" on it!! Sweet!
The finds starting coming after that. My next target was reading a bit high for what it ended up being, but once I cut the plug it rang in as a deep 12-38 signal, I was thinking Indian Head Penny all the way!! I was not disappointed, and at 8-9" I recovered this beauty. I could tell it had a lot of detail left, but I could not get a date off of it with a little field cleaning. It was not until i got it home and a little TLC with water and a toothbrush that I saw the date on it and my heart jumped!!!! I had just found an 1877 IH penny, the key date of all key date for this series!!!! I'm still on cloud nine. Pretty good details left on it, almost all of the liberty is showing. Anyone have any opinions on if it is worth getting it graded? I know it'll come back with environmental damage I'm sure. Doesn't matter to me, I'm just happy to have found it!!!
I kept moving down the slope and got another 12-38 signal, I was thinking IH again, but at around 10 inches I pulled out a nice draped bust LC, can't get a date on it though!
I went down past the wall to find the silver pendant, and then moved around the house to the more recent "front" section where everyone would have parked. I got a little hot spot and in a 3 foot circle I pulled out the silver washinton, the AA ring, and the Private Detective badge.
All in all a super awesome first hunt at a new permission, I cannot wait to get back!!!
Thanks for looking.
