Hello,

Joined LT and was told about this Forum also.
I live In Coastal South Carolina (Charleston area) and have just taken up the hobby, of course I'm im one of those ppl who had a old Radio shack Metal detector back in the 90's.
Just picked up A Garrett Ace 250 and a TEKNETICS T2.
My wife and I have taken up this Hobby as a team effort, and as i listed on the other Forum, just looking for maps and places to hunt here in the lowcountry of SC as well as any advice/tips for the hunt.
Really looking forward to hunting and seeing what’s out there, just tested out the detectors so far, found a few caps and some later quarters so far, getting a feel for the units themselves.
Now trying to get a plan together on a few good places to hunt here in the area i live in, but don’t really know where to start/look for planning ideas, was wanting to start looking for some old Civil war points (battlefields, depots and so on) , and the same for Revolutionary war points. Or any other places that would be worth while. Not looking to get rich, its more for the excitement of finding something old and forgotten about more so than striking it rich, however hitting pay dirt is always welcome lol

thanks

Hello Coasty, Welcome aboard. NONE of us are getting rich.... except Fisher and maybe Marx. But if you use those machines on the beaches, you should be able to make them pay for themselves. Go for it! TTC

a personal welcome to you the folks here are knowledgeable helpful and friendly

thanks to everyone for saying hello.

so i have to ask, because i am new, i know where they are widening 17-a, only about 15mins from me, but where would i look? just along the new roadbed or where? im sorry if that sounds stupid lol

Stupid? Ha ha ha! At 62, you don't know how many times I've heard that Kinda talk. Stupid is NOT ASKING! I have never worked a "widening highway" spot that I can recall. Can't help you there but if they are first removing the topsoil, as required per EPA in most construction sites, you have a 5 to 7 inch "headstart" to paydirt.... the DEEP goodies are now CLOSER! Someone else will jump in to help more than I have. Good luck! TTC

The Low Country? Boy are you lucky! I love hunting down there and try to get there as much as I can. The history is rich, and finds plentiful. Get a hold of a local Historian, then get your permission and have fun.

Thanks TerryC,woodland,fishbone.
Yes the lowcountry for sure, i live in a little town Called Bonneau,sc (29431) up here on the Lake. so i am in a good area, only about 10mins from St Stephen and Moncks corner.
i will check out those maps and ill take a drive out this weekend to the new road project and see whats out there.

Again still trying to learn that T2, but did find a few .50dessertsert Eagle casiaboutiout 4'' under or so, but i did have to use the grocancellationtion. I feel as tho the T2 is like some weird puzzle where all the pieces have to be lined up for it to work correctly. I can say that it goes deep, and twasn'tasnt all that good for me because i was out there just digging everything i could filuckilyckly it was my own land because it looked like small mortar craters all over the back field lol
there was an OLD settlement called "French Santee" down in a little town called Jamestown,SC (12-15mins from me), and thats really one place that im trying to find out where the orginal settlement was, apperantly the settlers were all but wiped out by Indians, thi

welcome to tnet :hello: :headbang:

If the T2's numbers jump from high to low, or vice versa, it is usually junk. Keep your discrimination at 10 or below. It will be chatty, but you want to hear what is down there. Dig all fairly constant signals. Here is a pretty good link for some programs. Feel free to read the rest of the site too. Hope you get a banner find soon! You are in an excellent area. http://metaldetectingworld.com/teknetics_t2_program_settings_p1.shtml

I started out with the Radio Shack detector too, it's a shame it went for a swim in the river. Kind of just jumped out of my hands and wanted to swim, maybe it was hot and need to cool off, it was like 90 that day.

My wife,s family is from Branchville what a grate area . history all over the place
