Hey all,
I just started CRH recently and have already scored some decent finds. I managed to get a bag of halves from my regular bank which had been apparently sitting in their vault for about 3 years. It had come out of their coin sorter. The teller wasn't sure they could sell me it but they did anyway since the branch manager wasn't in. I found out later they weren't supposed to sell it to me since they couldn't verify the coin count in the bag according to the branch manager.
So I had picked it up on a Thursday for the weekend but it didn't last that long. It was sitting next to me and I would flip it around looking through the plastic to see if anything caught my eye. And sure enough, sitting right on top was a 1964 Kennedy. In very nice shape too. So I tore the bag open and started going through it. It was alot of fun. ^_^
In the end, I found:
2 - 1964 Kennedy
2 - 1966 Kennedy
6 - 1967 Kennedy
3 - 1968 D Kennedy
2 - 1969 D Kennedy
5 - Canadian $2 Loonies
2 - Carwash tokens
And the oddest, 1 - 1943 Australian Penny.
The count was also off. The bag only have 991 Halves in it plus the other bits. So the teller was right.
And, a few weeks later, I had to go to the doctors office cause I got bit by a dog. And while paying my bill, I spied a treasure in the cashiers drawer. It was a 1962 Quarter. ^_^ I asked for it as part of my change and they just gave it to me.
Another treasure of recent find have been a 1964 Roosevelt dime I spied at the bank in the tellers change tray. And a 1957 Roosevelt dime I got in my change from Walmart.
I want to search more half dollars but every bank in town I've gone to (10) have said they don't have halfs and won't order them. However, I finally found one bank that will this week when I was in getting some Canadian money for a trip to canada. So I went ahead and opened an account and ordered a box. Hopefully it yields at least 1.
