I go to my bank (Chase) and get two boxes about every other week. I generally get about 10 - 15 40% each time. One time last summer when I was going to see kinfolk I stopped at a couple of banks I am not a member of and one of them had a $1000 bag and they were glad to see them go. I got about 250 - 260 40% out of it, that is my best haul for some time. I have hit some banks around here that I do not normally go to this month and have gotten 25 90% and almost 100 40%. I do what a lot of folks do, I buy at a lot of different banks, but I do not buy at Bank of America as I have an account there also and use that bank to dump my unwanteds. Sometimes it is feast or famine, but that is part of the thrill of the hunt. I go to banks I am not a member of a couple of times a week during lunch, gives me something to do and keeps me from stuffing my face. I always keep empty wrappers with me that way if there is a BofA nearby I can go thru the coins I just bought, roll them then deposit them in my BofA account. Try to keep a little extra money with you so that when you happen to pass a bank stop in and see if they have any halves, even if it is a bank in a town you are just passing thru.

That is pretty cool. Sounds like you do very good.

I went to Chase today and they didn't have a box...only $130 worth so I bought them and will go through them tonight. I ordered a box and they said it will not come in until end of next week. They gave me the $130 worth in a sealed clear bag and just looking at them through the bag I saw one keeper so I am excited.

If I continue to do this, is there a way to make sure you don't get the same coins over & over?

There really is no way. One thing I do, and a few others, is we spend our halves (convenience store, tip eating out, etc). Many people will take them and put them away, hence, out of circulation. If you want to turn them in your best bet is to open an account at another bank (non Chase if that is your main bank) turn them in there and time to time just write a check from the dump bank to the main bank to restock your Chase account. If they use the same company to turn their loose change into as the dump bank, then time to time you will go thru some you did before. One thing I also do, is if I go out of town on a trip (did this going to Vegas early last month), I take a bunch of my rejects and deposit some in out of town banks and spent a bunch for gas, food, etc. One of the hazards of our hobby is that time to time you will get some you have already had, unfortunately it is unavoidable.

Good ideas Wayne. Thanks.

I went through the $130 worth and there were 14-1967 & 1-1965 in the bunch. Is this about average, above or below?

Those counts are a little above average. Congrats!!!

1967 was a high mintage year and 1965 a low mintage year. I find alot more 1967 and 1968's than any other 40%ers.
nice to see your diving in there and getting the silver while it is to be had.
Best Regards, Ray

OMG LJ

I Decided to sort the post by members and have been reading all your posts. What an amazing story you have here. and It's all recorded for prosperity and history. Thought pushing this post to the top would give some of the regulars a laugh to see it, or the hardcores a cry giving the skunks that a lot of us have been getting.

As you may be aware of I just joined this forum in the last month and I'm still trying to catch up on all the great reading when I'm not posting myself.

I was shocked and amazed to find that in a little over a year you have become quite the little CRH. It appears to me you had little to no knowledge of coins when you started. and look at you now. And quite an authority. You should be the envy of us all.

You have come a long way in such a short amount of time. This thread and Tnet. were obviously very helpfull to you getting started.

The area that your working in has obviously been very fruitfull as well. Some of your dime finds are phenomenal, not to mention everything else. I mean holy cow! With the yields your getting It's no wonder you search as much as you do these days. If I was doing that well I would quit my day job.

You are my hero....Heroine
Congratulations on your good fortune.
Your humble fellow CRH Mojo.

OMG I was reading LJ's post and thinking it was posted to day and it was some kind of joke.

LOL

This thread isn't even funny, it makes me cry. I'll throw ya some advice, LJ, leave me a peace dollar or two, huh ?? ;D

Well now Mojo....you had to go digging up the past huh.....ha! I was embarrassed reading my own post from back in January of 2007...... :-[. I actually felt the heat in my cheeks.....lol.

Yes, I was a newbie....lol....and didn't know squadoodle about coins. We all have to start somewhere right? I just came across this CRH'ing section while browsing. I originally joined because of MD'ing which now collects dust....well, not really but pretty close. I actually went MD'ing this weekend.

I have learned alot over the months because of the older members sharing their knowledge and patience. It has been a fun ride I must say.

OMG....my cheeks are still warm.... :-[.....lol. I'd better go...................... :-[

:-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Thanks Mojo for the kind words......yes, I am very grateful....but embarrassed as well......not sure why because you do have to start somewhere.........

I was like Cat when I first starting reading it.....is this a joke??? Who is doing this.....lol.....I didn't realize you could go that far back. Oooh...a little trip down memory lane.......

Silver will come, just keep swinging that thing. I did a little dirt fishing too. Went out for awhile this morning then it got to hot (85 degrees). I found 46 coins for $2.58. And a 1944s wheatie.
