Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I live right up the road from the beach and was down there this weekend with my daughter and thought it would be a good idea to search around and see if we could find anything of interested. I found some glas and some bottle tops but I was hoping I could find some rings or something valuable that people loose at the beach. I've never seen anyone down there metal detecting so I thought it would be a good spot. With all the people that visit during the summer, someone along the way must have lost something in the sand.

Can you please give me a suggestion on what to purchase for searching the sand. Too cold to go in the water and there are so many people during the summer it prob wont be an option.

Thanks for your help!

Buy an AT PRO and a good sand scoop.

Pretty much any detector will work in the dry sand. If it is a salt water beach and you want to hunt in the wet sand or water; many of them will not work as well. Besides the detector and a good sand scoop you will need a pouch to hold your finds and trash and maybe a good pair of sandals. You will also hear many different discussions on footwear. I use dive boots or bare feet; depending on where I'm going but most would not recommend going in bare feet!

Debby is correct on this one. Most metal detectors will work. A sand scoop is not necesary at first, you can use a shovel but it is much much faster with the scoop.
Footwear is important if you plan on walking a lot, tennis shoes usually get full of sand, so not very good. As for a finds pouch it is a good thing but if you are going to keep in the dry sand you can also use a decent pair of cargo pants.
Remember to fill up your holes even if you are at the beach, it isn't nice to see a beach full of holes or a careless detectorist.
Pick up all the trash you see (and for that matter the pouch is a good thing) even if it is not burried, it is always a good thing to do for you and for the future users, and people will appreciate you if they come up to you asking "what your doing" and you answer "picking up trash"....

Oh yeah, don't forget lot's of batteries, some Ben-Gay, a back brace, sun tan lotion, bug spray, a coil cover, more batteries, another scoop, aspirin, a pin-pointer, a rock polisher, a good sawtoothed digger, neo-magnets, a pouch, more batteries, another scoop, polarized sun glasses, a hat, a belt for the pouch, a display case, and yeah, some more batteries.

Anything I forgot?

G.I.B. all I have to say is...... buy some rechargable batteries.... jajajaja ... :occasion14:

PR,
There is literally 'stuff' lost all the time! Humans have scattered money all over this earth of ours as well as junk, jewelry and many other fascinating items. It is out there for the finding and at times asking permission first when where you want to go is private property. As has already been indicated - clean up after yourself, fill your holes even if the tide will be in soon and follow that all the time you are detecting and people will even invite you back. Share when you feel it is right, return when you feel it is right, help when you can and enjoy yourself and others..............63bkpkr

First off, thanks for all of the replies. It's mostly dry sand but when the tide goes out there is some wet salt water soaked sand that I would like to hunt as well. Also if you dig deep enough on the dry sand it will become moist eventually. I like the Tesoro Compadre idea, because well, it's an inexpensive way to get started. I would buy a sand scoop for sure rather than carrying around a shovel. Is there something out there that would do well in the moist sand and it's not too expensive. If not I may just go for that Tesoro Compadre and stay in the dry sand and see what I can find. There are plenty of small beachs around town I would be able to go to and I'm a member at a few of them so I should be good to go. Also if I'm picking up trash and filling holes I can't see why there would be a problem.
