Hello All

I have been reading post on this site for the past couple weeks. Nice that there are some very interesting finds out there. Mine is the same old story, was into metal detecting heavy during the 80's and early 90's, but life got in the way and cut back. My wife and I quit our jobs two years ago, and just know starting to metal detect again, I think the hurricanes got in the way this time. Had to keep fixing the house and yards back up.

Here is a little background, I am 48 years old. My wife and I both put out 20 years in the Air force.
I like Beach hunting best, followed by old houses and parks. I still have four machines. Although all over 10 years old. Whites Surfmaster PI, Whites Spectrum, Fisher 1280-X and a Fisher 1235-X.

Since July 8th I have recovered 3 gold rings, one gold pendant, one nice silver rope chain, one heavy silver bracelet, 3 silver rings, one silver toe ring, one silver cross and almost 600 coins. (for some reason all the gold is 10K, makes me miss when I was stationed on Hawaii .. a lot there was 18K.

I don't want to make this too long, but i am also curious if any hunters here are near the Florida panhandle?

Tom,

AF here too...been in shy of 18 years. Just picked up the hobby on Father's Day--got an ACE 250 per my extensive hints after a Navy buddy turned me on to it...he came over to hunt my yard and found a '36 quarter, '45 merc, a bunch of wheats and a bunch of clad in about 2 hours. I was hooked. Looking forward to having more time to get out and pull up some good stuff in the future. Welcome back to the hunt!

Hi Tom,

I've got 25 in the Air Force and am still at it - at least for another year. Glad to see that there's a life beyond the gates. We've got AF (ret) family in your neck of the woods (near Eglin), but haven't convinced them to join our crazy obsession yet. Welcome aboard!

Tom, welcome to the forum, I am looking forward to your posts, and no they are not too long. I also want to thank both you and your wife for your service to OUR country, I really appreciate all of our soldiers! God Bless America!!

Thanks for thereply, let me know if you get to this area maybe we can beach hunt.

I see your in Alaska, I have a lot of family in the Soldotna area. Also was stationed at Elmendorf AFB
from 80 - 85. Do you get out nugget hunting at all. They are getting some good nuggets in the
Magrath area, from what I hear.

Hi Tom,

We do a little rec sluicing and always bring the MXT with us. No big nuggets yet, but haven't tried very hard either. I'm heading to GA tomorrow for a week and looking forward to finding at least one coin that'll beat my 1925 oldest find so far. Not too many old coins to be had up here.

Good luck in Georgia, I have a neighbor that is working to get us into a old site there too.
I know a lot of good coins are found there .. maybe some civil war sites too.

Hi Old Tom,

I live just over the Georgia line north of Tallahassee. My buddy and I like to look for old coins mostly, but beach hunting is good too! You'd be welcome to hunt with us anytime. Holler if you want to go sometime! Oh...I use a Fisher too ;).
