Hello everyone. I'm interested in starting Metal Detecting. I'm looking for some info on what type of metal detectors are good for a starter one i have a $150 to $250 budget. I live in the Naugatuck Valley of Connecticut and i was wondering where i can get one locally or online sites. Also i was curious if anyone knows of any good spots in CT for hunting.

Hey Casinophil I started detecting about a year ago and like you was not sure on what type of detector. I decided to start small maybe with something used and i did a Tesoro silver umax for 125.00. I told myself after i get the hang of it ill upgrade to something maybe bigger or fancier that cost more but you know what FORGET IT. I love my silver umax small lightweight simple and finds whatever it is I'm looking for. Just my thought but hope it helps.

When your ready to buy or even need more help in selecting a good detector, contact Tony at http://tcmetaldetectors.com Tony is in CT I believe and if you can get to his store you will get to try many different kinds. Best of all you get to take it home with you.

Hi CasinoPhil,

Here is a link to a site I found when deciding which detector to buy. It has user reviews of all the brands and models.
I decided to buy a used machine so I could get a better machine and stay within my price range.
metaldetectorreviews.net

Good luck,
Dave

Welcome to the club!
Hope you enjoy the hobby. It is a LOT of fun.

I agree with above - check out the Ace 250 and the Tesoro Silver. Good beginning machines, and they won't break the bank.
