Newbie Question: Chatter on the Eqx 600

Do you noise cancel as soon as you turn it on?...then ground balance, adjust sensitivity. Make sure there is no EMI around that could be causing the chatter. Number of things can cause chatter. Sensitivity too high, bad coil, or interference from other sources.

Cell phones will cause interference also

LOVE my new Equinox 600, but every once in a while, when I turn it on, I get constant noise chatter, like Morse Code signals.
What setting must I use to tune this out?

Thanks in advance. :icon_scratch:

I’ve had the same problem with the 800. All that noise rendered the machine useless. Switched to the Pro with no problem. Just goes to show that I need to learn the Nox better than I have.
Good luck with the 600.

Just remembered reading on another thread that multi freq was prone to chatter with EMI, and switching to single freq helped with chatter.

Could be your cell phone as well.

It is EMI most likely. Auto noise cancel and if the EMI is still there you will have to turn down the sensitivity. If this is near your house like in your backyard or near a building or power lines, turning down the sensitivity will take care of most of it. Hunting with the Equinox with sensitivity on 15 to 18 is not going to keep you from detecting deep targets.

If you carry your cellphone while detecting it is most likely your problem...

Try turning off your cell phone, reducing sensitivity to 18, noise cancel. Lastly, try this at a site that for sure has no EMI, farm field, rural park path. If you still get the chatter call Minelab to potentially swap out your unit.

My chattering issue was helped initially by lowering sensitivity, but then mostly cleared up with the first firmware update. It wasn't a cell phone issue, I've had that happen when I carry one, but generally I don't.

So far the only time I have had chatter on mine was when hunting my friends yard who happens to have an Invisible Fence for his dog. I had him shut it off and all was good after that.

Cellphone, leave in car.
lower sensitivity.
In some areas I hunt I have to go to a single frequency like 10khz because of high EMI

Just turn your cell phone off. You shouldn’t have a problem when it’s turned off. I never leave my phone in the car.

Hey what does that mean switched to pro. Sorry new to equinox

I noise cancel first thing, but sometimes the noise or Emi FROM ANOTHER SOURCE CAUSES PROBLEMS, JUST RE NOISE CANCEL SHOULD WORK FINE

I’ve found that switching the frequency from multi will cut down on the chatter on my 800 a lot.

In one area I go to I have to go s signal frequency 10 kHz because the EMI is so bad but the 10 khz allows me to detect that area.
