newbie's first memorable finds (pics added)
hello all, My son's (6, 10) and I have been visiting your site for a couple of months. Everyone here is very knowledgeable and you have all impressed me with how quickly you Identify unknown Items.
We've been detecting for a very short while. Approx 4 months. I purchase a detector after watching a TV show about it. my sons seemed really into it, so I took the dive did some investigation and purchased a White's XLT. I figured we would have some really good family fun looking for (in their eyes) hidden treasure (which until recently was nails and pulltabs).
up until now we've found tons of nails, pull tabs and various other items. Tonight we made our first real finds at a local park. We found an 1865 2 cent piece, an 1882 Indian head, an unknown date Indian head, and lastly an 1866 0r 1867 shield nickle with the rays. Both the Indian and the shield are soaking to hopefully clean them up enough to see a date.
The 2 cent was about 4 inches down, the rest were between 2 and 3 inches down.
I would post some pics but I haven't figured that out yet and two are still soaking, but we were too excited with the finds and wanted to post it here. I will add pics as soon as I can
And BTW this is a great forum and look forward to posting here again and again...
