I think your right. I have found a couple of intact ones also and if you clean them up inside and out, if the ringer is still inside they sound really nice. Definitely better than the new repros.
 

Nice! Cleaned up they have a sweet ring to them. I carried a couple in my coat pockets around Christmas. Beats anything the salvation army had. ffd
