Hey GB great find! Did they ever make any Adzes out of shells like that one? lol ok I see the title now.

That's got a nice edge on it. You can't see it so well on the first two pics. How well would shell hold up compared to stone? It would seem like a stone adz would wear out quickly.

Yeah Tom.. I know.
This one has a nice bit and no damage..it's solid also.. three things hard to find with these.
This one is made from the lip section of the conch while some others are made with the body.
They broke a lot of these..but they got the job done...when stone wasn't abundant.
If you've ever held a fresh large conch shell you can feel how dense and sturdy they are.
These "queen" or pink conch shells have tested as the same hardness as a lower grade chert.
