As many of you know I've been researching old fair ground sites. Today I went to one of the sites but the grounds were all fenced in with no trespassing signs. I decided to hunt the sidewalks before the fences. I found 2 buttons which I don't know what they are (help) a 1940 silver half dollar and 3 Mercury dimes. Not a bad day but I wish I could get into the fair grounds because I'm sure there are a lot more finds to be found.
Edit: I also found some pennies from the 40's - 50's but here in Fl they don't last long...

Nice walker half. The buttons look like a great seal button from the 20th century and a band uniform button. Gotta wonder what's behind fence number 1....

Wow...nice digging..congrats !! Find out who owns that land.

Gotta love that Silver half. Congrats on some nice finds and GL on the pole vault into the promise land. :occasion14:

Nice collection of Adolf Weinman coins.
The Mercury Dime and Walking Liberty Half are IMHO 2 of the best coins designed since 1916.

Ya, after 12 telephone calls I'm ready to climb the fence and just go hunt.

Call: Yes, I would like permission to metal detect on county property at XX.
Answer: I'm sorry but I don't handle that I'll connect you with someone else.

You did well Billie, for not getting in!

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

You got to get back there even if you accidentally fell down on the other side

I agree with Villagenut. Button on left is a Great Seal button, and the other one seems to be from a Band uniform. Great coin finds, and be careful jumping that fence. You don't want to end up in your County jail. It wont be worth whatever you find.

Congratulations on some great finds. Love that half dollar, and have yet to find one of those myself. I have always felt the Liberty Walking Half was America's most beautiful coin, with the possible exception of the St. Gauden's $20 gold piece. HH.

Wow that is a great hunt. That place sounds like it's calling your name on the other side of the fence! Haha!

sweet finds!! I've found a few of those band buttons here in Ga also..Never really done any research on them though. But they're like a 2 or 3 piece civil war era or after button.

The first button looks like a U.S. Army uniform button - same design as the ones on my old uniform. The second button makes me think of a military music corps button, but I don't really know. Great silver finds! Sure are beautiful! Thanks for sharing with us. :icon_thumleft:

Sweet silver finds, congrats! :occasion14:

Nice hunt & very nice silvers, maybe someone has already cut a hole you could fall through, congrats & HH

Gotta love that walker. Can we get a group pic of all your fairground silvers at the end of the year?

Sure. I take pics as soon as I clean things up so I'll do it. And to all of you telling me to fall over the fence, ya I probably could but getting back over would be a beouch... I talked to a county guy today at the grocery store and asked him about it. He said the local police look for trespassers and will nail ya if they catch you. He also didn't know who to call for permission. I almost offered to buy his county shirt so IF I did get in I could say I had permission to hunt there for the county and I was working....

I would say talk to your local sheriff or mayor..they can help you a lot. It does me good anyway on state and county properties.
