Nice Snyders, Nice In-Situ

Found another nice point this weekend. Went up to Pike Co IL yesterday rock hunting. Found about 60 brokes total, but only found 1 nice point. The first picture is how I originally saw it, the second is a close up of the point. The 3rd is my 5 year old, he still doesn't see the point yet and the 4th is him holding it. 2-1/2" Snyders, Burlington. Every time I hunt this spot I find a point nearly identical to this in the same spot. I'm starting to think there's a cache being plowed out. Also found a lot of Hopewell bladelets and cores. This place has an unbelievable amount of colorful worked flint. The last picture is just a random picture of some dirt.

Awesome looking Snyders twitch. It took me a long time to find it in that first picture. I can see why your son had trouble seeing it.

SRV - The first picture was taken from where I originally spotted the point, before I went over and checked it out. Usually the look great from 25' but something is wrong when you get close. Not this time.

Catherine - I'm going to try to probe around a little bit next time - if I find more I'll be amazed but it's worth a try. I assume half a fishing pole is as good a probe as anything? Any help is appreciated.

Jonzer - You should be in Snyder's central there. Cahokia's are my favorite. The very first weekend I moved here I found a broken tri-notch. Never found another before or after that.

Huntress - Thank you, I use to say he looked like me and that I was hoping he'd grow out of it. Funny story, my 5 year old and 4 year got tired of looking and were playing pirate ship in the back of my truck. I was ~75 yards away out in the site. There's not a discernable hazard for 600 yards in any direction. I was taking pictures of the point in-situ when my 5 year came running out to me. I asked him what he was doing and he was bringing me part of his lunch in case I was hungry. I have good kids.

Twitch, the best probes I have seen were made from a piece of rebar about 3 foot long with a another small piece welded to the top to make a T Handle. It makes it a lot easier to probe the ground with one of these. Put a point on the end with a grinder and it goes in even easier.
