night hunt at "main beach" - 29 cents found before shark attack happened *photo

ok heres what happened - over the weekend there was a big huge food network * national BBQ challange cook off at main beack park in fernandina , florida ( at main beach park) * so i figger hey great chance to find clad and maybe some jewelry --since a few thousand folks were there.

been too dang hot to day hunt however (90 plus degrees all day long * 105 heat index ) -- so a midnight night hunt is in order --- 75 to 80 with a nice stiff sea breeze -- rather nice really

so i go to the park and start hunting -- with my trusty head lamp -- a short bit later a cop car comes by as i'm digging a signal-- by the parking lot edge -- "you ok?" yes says i just doing a bit of metal detecting theres was a big cookout this weekend --hope someone maybe lost a ring or two -- cop says "good luck" and goes about his way -- target pops up -- mem cent -zinc --oh well

then hunt goes on -- butt loads of the old 1960's thru 1970 style beaver tail type tabs were coming up -- lord i hate those, since they mimic a ring perfectly --double beep and all -- the newer tabs --i can cull out and not dig--- but not those old beavertail type tabs --gotta dig em or pass up rings maybe ---

being its a couple hours later (shift change i guess-- a second cop now comes by --"are you ok?" again yep --just detecting --too hot to do it in the day time -- good luck he says

after 4 zinc cents found I finally hit a quarter --clad but a still a quarter --- I nicked ole georgies face -

on the 6th coin -- while digging OWW sumpin sharp hits the end of my finger *** low and behold its a needle sharp --lil ole sharks tooth *** the zincoln is right by it -- seems the LAND SHARK was guarding ole abe.

well it is a true story and about the only way you can make a clad quarter and 5 zinc cents in a 3 hour hunt sound interesting. ;D :icon_thumright:
