DAY 1
I took another crack at the K to 8 school. I spent 5 hours swinging the CZ21 on another hillside hoping for more goodies. Altogether I found 26 coins with a face value of $0.56, the hood of a toy car, 3 wheaties, 2 modern buttons, 2 pieces of cheapie jewelry, 2 rifle cartridges (one was an FN 52, military from 1952), aluminum bottle caps, can slaw, whole cans, aluminum tie wire, 25 tabs and 7 pencil ends.
The wheaties were the best finds this trip, 1938, 1946 and 1948. Nothing special, maybe next time.
DAY 2 PART 1
I went back to the park by the pool where I found the merc dimes recently. I spent 3 hours swingin the CZ21 in the area where I found the silver and found 24 coins with a face value of $1.42, a clock gear, 3 wheaties, a mine chit, a key, aluminum bottle caps, can slaw, whole cans and 24 tabs.
The wheaties are a 1938D, a 1940 and a 1950D. The mine chit is a number 67. This area had a lot of coal mines. If you aren’t familiar with them, each miner had a number of brass chits with his númber on them. When he went into the mine he put one of his chits on the board so they knew who was in the mine. The miners were paid for the amount of coal they dug. He would put a chit on the hook on the mine car he was filling. If several miners worked on the same car there would be a chit on the hook for each miner and they would split the pay for that car. Some mines actually had the mine name as well as a number on the chit. Most of the ones around here only have a number.
Finds were thinning out so I decided to try another place.
DAY 2 PART 2
I went to the park closest to my house where I have found several coins from the 1700s and large cents. The goodies are few and far between, but you never know. I spent 2.5 hours with the CZ21 and found 29 coins with a face value of $2.85, 1 and a half toy cars, a flat button, a rabies tag, a sinker, half of a horseshoe, can slaw, whole cans, rifle cartridges and 7 tabs.
The rabies tag is from South Carolina and is a long way from home. Either a visitor with a pet or someone who moved into the area. It is from 2023 so not very old.
The flat button is a nice large oldie. Unfortunately it is plain on the front and has no backmark. It does have a nice erect intact shank. Another indicator that old stuff is still waiting to be found.
The sinker is a nice 4 ouncer. So a quarter pounder (no cheese) worth about 15 cents in scrap value. Not great, but it all adds up.
DAY 3
I decided to go to one of the parks I detected before Labor Day. This one was restricted to 1 hour water hunting before Labor Day, but now the beach is ok to detect and there is no time restriction. I figured I would give the beach a go and redo parts of the water and hope for some luck. There are 2 small swimming areas with beaches. It has been so dry that the water level has dropped about 4 feet in the past 5 weeks so less swimming area and more beach to detect.
I spent 5.5 hours covering it all with the ATPro set on PRO ZERO mode IRON AUDIO on and DISCRIMINATION set at 30. I wasn’t expecting a lot and I didn’t find a lot, but I did pretty well overall. I found 12 coins with a face value of $1.23, a batch of jewelry, a rabies tag, a vaping device, 2 pieces of fishing tackle, sinkers, tabs, an old copper nail, a .22 slug and foil of course.
4 rings came out of the water and one of them was silver. It has a nice woven pattern on the side. It has a decent amount of tarnish and was down about 8 inches so it was in the water for awhile. I probably missed it when I did my quick sweep before Labor Day. I know some other people have detected there since Labor Day so I wasn’t the only one to miss it. My wife likes it so I will polish it up for her. She doesn’t mind me being gone detecting especially when she gets goodies I find. The big CZ earring is silver as well, lots of CZ, not much silver in that earring.
DAY 4
I went back to the park closet to home and checked out some of the high traffic areas looking for new losses and old misses. I had appointments so I only had time for a short hunt. I spent 3.5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 46 coins with a face value of $2.54, a key, some jewelry, a 1952 Canadian penny, a croc decoration, a big coin, fishing lures, sinkers, aluminum bottle caps, can slaw, foil and 14 tabs.
The big coin is a cheap one used by soccer officials for the coin toss in the games. This ref lost the toss.
One of the pieces of jewelry is a nice little silver pendant. I found it on top of the gravel on the edge of the parking lot. It has white topaz stones around the edge and dark blue, almost black, topaz stones in the center. I nice looking little piece.
NON DETECTOR FINDS
I found a dime in the parking lot, a 1956 D wheatie in change and 2 pennies on the floor at the store. Nothing great, but it all counts.
A decent week with 3 silvers, some oldies, gas money and fun. Who could ask for anything more. (Also a ring to keep my wife happy). Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
