Saturdays hunt (on my own all weekend);
This was the last chance on this field & I got up at first light to make the most of it, because he was planning to roll it after lunch. By the time Shaun7 rolled in, I had 2 hammered. He killed it for me then & we spent a few hours wondering when we might see a good find again. After getting soaked we decided to break for lunch & re-think our options & moved to the Field of 500 for 1 hour before going home very wet (see next post for the few Roman Coins I had).

Jaw Harp
Part of a Wax Seal - Dog with 'FAITHFUL' above
Cloth Seal
Lead Token
Neolithic Flint Tool
6 Roman scrappy Coins
2 17th C Tokens
1794 Halfpenny Token of Coventry :)
Cut half of Henry III
Halfpenny of Elizabeth I :icon_thumright: (mm. Woolpack)

Man that is one small silver coin. I like it.

Times sure have changed from the days of silver pennys, and half penny.

Great finds. I have a question about when you state the farmer will "roll" the field and won't let you back on the field. My question is when you state they roll the field is that done after they plow the field to breakup the soil? Is in the USA we call it disking. Thanks just wondering.

Discing is breaking up the soil, rolling is flattening it after a deep plough & before drilling the seed. Although there are different methods depending on the farmer/soil type & or what they are planting. Its sandy soil & he doesn't want our footprints in his nice flat soil.

They also roll after the seed is drilled, to cover it.
