No.1 Field & its Neighbour...GRAND TOTALS

This is the finds from 20 days on the No.1 Field (plus about 12 from Dad) & about 5 days on its Neighbour (& 1 from Dad).

Hammered - No.1 Field last Year: 33 This Year: 33 (Freaky) Neighbour last Year: 2 This Year: 7

Therefore 35 versus 40, so a slight increase on our second year, that is surprising :o

Overall grand totals of recorded finds - Last Year 508 This Year: 501. Close :laughing7:

The pictures below do not include the hundreds of plain/4 hole buttons, Georgian/Victy Coppers, broken buckles & other scrap box items.

Highlights for me were the Medieval Thimble, Zoro Mask Farthing, Viking Coin, & Very Rare Saxon Sceat :headbang:

I'm guessing you are like our US Cousins & think a Casket is a coffin? Its a small box over here for valuables etc...

I guess we put about 160-175 hours into these 2 fields.

Pretty sure it wouldn't be, as I don't think we will have a stubble option, which could cut our detecting time to 2-3 days only. We do have the advantage of this farm being one of the last to still practice deep ploughing every year, due to its easy sandy conditions.
We will try hard but it will be a much different story next year :tongue3:

LOL! Thats why there are so many finds in Your field! I didn't thought the keys were for a coffin, but for some kind of casket where religious relics where carried over the country... We have something like that over here with processions...

All I can say is wow. Thanks for the post on the rolling of the fields.
What do you suppose theses fields were used for to field all these finds? Maybe fair ground areas?

I don't want to give too much detail. But for the most part, its also been a field since the Iron Age (circa 100BC but was settled/used by hunter gatherers in the Neolithic (4000BC)), due to its ease of ploughing. Carried on into the Roman Period, with a limited amount of Saxon activity. It then became a gathering place where a market grow up organically which ended in the late 17th C, it was then farmed in the Victorian period & became allotments in WWI. Still farmed today, so mostly 2000 years of farming.

That's what you do not understand :-\ ..... the findings are not the farmers that is national heritage and you are the best person to hunt, you should not pay for detect in these fields.
Very good results as usual, I would like you and dad could hunt in the vineyards. :D

English Law is that anything buried on someones land is theirs unless an agreement is met. Don't worry we don't pay to detect (except on the odd Rally), we only pay when I want to keep a rare item & the farmer is more interested in money than History. This is only some of the farmers & most are happy with what we give them.
