Gypsy...never thought of that, and it very well could be :thumbsup: I was thinking mechanical, like part of a gun or a braking mechanism on an old wagon. However the hook does look just like the ripper end of the gutting knives.

its a stop to keep a spring loaded lid from going to far or maybe part of a hood latch/stop
