Took the family down south this weekend to pick up a tent trailer we bought a while back. I had actually packed a couple gold pans just in case we stopped at a good stream on the way home. Barely got to dip a pan in the water, so no gold, but found a bit of silver.

While down we visited my uncle's new house (nearly finished). Just on the way to the car I spotted a silver ring in the driveway and my wife found a missing keyless entry fob/thing for my aunt's car. The ring went straight to a cousin to return to his girlfriend, but it wasn't the last of the silver for the day.

Later, at the property, I spotted a 1941 liberty half-dollar laying in what will soon be a flower bed. My son had crawled towards the edge of the porch and when I bent down to pick him up, it was right there crusted into the dirt with just the round shape showing. By the blackish color I knew it was silver straight away, and ran off to the hose to give it a rinse. The condition isn't stellar, but not bad for an eyeball find!

My uncle said there was a previous house on the site that had been wiped out in a flash flood (lots of new stone walls to hopefully prevent a repeat), and that they'd been finding all sorts of household debris. Unfortunately I didn't have a detector on me, and their lawn will likely be in before I make it back to CA. At least I got a little taste of what might be...

Much better with pictures. :)

Thanks! I was pretty excited, but man did I wish I had a detector with me!

Cool story, don't you wish you had your detector with you huh? That site could be good for detecting.

Nice! Don't you hate when opportunity and detector don't cross paths :-\

I sure do! My aunt quickly snapped up a rake and started sifting through the dirt. :)

Glad to see you posting Eathan!!! What a superb eyeball find! Since we last talked I found two walking Halves...a 42 and a 44.
Beautiful coins aren't they!

Tack care and happy hunting

Great coin, eyeballed or not.

Way to keep your eyes peeled. :o

Thanks all! Guess it pays to keep your eyes open. :)

Thanks!

Was really just nice to be away from the computer and phones for a change. Been swamped lately. Still, I can't complain that business is picking up. That's what all the hard work is for after all. :)

You're right, they are nice looking coins. It's my first (see how often I actually get out?) and I'm sure I was grinning from ear to ear when I came back from giving it a bath in the hose.

Hopefully I have as good of luck this weekend. Time to go get a little gold out of these creeks. :D

Jeepers,,, a silver ring, fob, and a nice coin without even having the detector with you. Maybe I should just leave my detector at home next time... ;D
Great story, Thanks for sharing....
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

If only that happened every time out. :)

I do tend to have good luck with spotting stuff though. I'm always finding money, sometimes jewelry, even a watch once. Found a mercury dime all wrapped in cellophane ready for a collection at the post office. I even picked up a $20 bill in broad daylight on the corner of Haight and Masonic in SF. My friends who lived there were pretty shocked it lasted long enough for me to spot it.

Just a natural tendency to look at the ground I guess...
