Last month I travelled to New Orleans for a work-related event, Tales of the Cocktail, an international gathering of bartenders and spirits companies. As I was packing I thought "I should probably bring my detector..." so I packed it up. Then I thought, "No, I won't have time..." and unpacked. At the last minute I decided to disassemble and pack it all over again. I'm glad I did. Here are the results of two short hunts. Enjoy!

That made the decision to pack your detector worthwhile!
Great finds at that beautiful old park. Congrats.

W :o W!!! You did great! You was fortunate to have that rain helping you out...I quite sure you enjoyed the heat & humidity. I'm not sure what park this is, but I know that NOLA_Ken will recognize it.

Hey NO FAIR! :laughing9: That's an incredible haul for a park here. I guess I need to take up park hunting again. Hope you enjoyed our fair city, and from the looks of those finds (and what I hear of your event) I'm guessing you did. :icon_thumleft:

Thanks Palmetto :)

River Rat, hehe, yeah, the heat and humidity were a bit different from San Francisco this time of year! Finding some good coins made all the sweat and panting worthwhile though!

Ken, thanks for the reply, I was hoping a local would chime in! I will say New Orleans is one of my favorite cities I've been to - super friendly people, a great atmosphere... and a whole lot of great places to detect, from what it looked like. I had a really good time and certainly wouldn't mind spending some time there in the future :)

staydetuned, come back any time. Let me know when, and we can hit a few places and see what turns up. Glad you had a good time here, that's what this city is all about.

Dude... detecting in argyle socks?? :laughing7: With that kind of luck (and skill) I think I'll start wearing them.

;D was thinking earlier about getting a pair to head to the park with...... And River Rat, any time you want to come down, let me know, we'll go to a nice old park area and see if we can't do at least as good!

Hehehe, yeah, I think maybe I'll start wearing those more often!

If you guys do get out around there, in that particular park, I'd love to see a post. I want to see what else comes out of that place. The pickings definitely got slimmer the next couple days and in other areas. Some sections felt very worked out, and I do think I got lucky to happen to start in a good area. That said, I'm sure there must be some more good areas around; that place is huge!
