Metal Detecting
Hey, all.
I am thinking of getting into the hobby. Tried it once several years back with a junk detector, and quickly lost interest after finding only nails, pull tabs, and general trash.
However, I have a love for 'hunting' various things: native american artifacts, fossils, antiques, etc., and am thinking that I need to do considerably more research this go-round, go out in the field with someone with some experience, and give the hobby a better chance than I did previously.
I live in southwestern VA, so have some possibilities for CW locations, as well as old homesteads, schools, barns, and so on.
Looking forward to checking out the site and soaking up some knowledge before I 'jump in' blindly, as I did before.
Thanks!

I've got two good detectors, and I still dig nails, pull tabs and general trash. Some of those trashy signals can sometimes be a great find. Slow down and be patient, and keep digging trash. From the looks of your post, you know where to hunt.

Welcome aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Virginia for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Thanks, everyone

First off: Welcome to Tnet Flex. Secondly, we live in a wonderful state(Virginia) for metal detecting with many options from civil war relic hunting to coin shooting older homesites to just hunting parks and such. After some time you will find "better" sites with less trash and more treasure. Just remember that with metal detecting, things are not always as they appear...Meaning that little patch of woods could have been a thriving farm or civil war camp 160 years ago! I have found some great items in areas that i wasn't real excited about hunting. Take your time, do your research, and pick the machine that appeals to you. Good luck!

Welcome from Alabama and happy hunting to you. Be sure to share your cool finds and what you learn.

This is perfect advice, because nothing helps more than time with your machine.

Welcome, don't get discouraged, we all dig our fair share of trash. Researching sites is a big part of success.
