North Carolina MacCorkle?

I drove ~8 less hours this weekend looking for rocks than I did last weekend (still drove ~6 hours). Headed down for a hunt w/ NCFieldhunter. Turned Saturday into a 14 hour adventure (including hunting, driving and eating) and I'm proud to say that my 5 year did great and had a blast. Overall we did great. Found about a dozen including brokes. I found a 2-1/8" point that is almost certainly a MacCorkle, only I've never heard of a MacCorkle coming out of North Central North Carolina. I have a video on my son pulling this point out of the ground but I can't figure out how to get the GPS information off the file. NC found about the same amount of stuff.

Any thoughts on the type are greatly appreciated.

Honestly, I wasn't holding out. Swear to it. Grass is greener on the other side is a saying that holds true. This spot is so close to my home that I only recently thought to look.

That swamp has given me the sniffles. Lol! The piece that Joe has is ground at the base and wider than the lacroy, I think. However, I have never heard of a mccorkel. I'm not good at typing points. Until recent years they have either been a point or not a point. I see where lacroy is similar, really close, in fact.

Some of the basses are more concave than others. Is it the size that makes you think otherwise?

You get around man. From that area I'd call it a Kirk Stemmed - Bifurcated. I have seen some similar examples from that area and that is what the locals tend to call them. Nice point.

The only thing that would be close would be the hardaway dalton they are ground.

Here is the Kirk Serrated.... With the shape of that base and the grinding if it were me I would lean towards lecroy... Hardaway Dalton..being second choice.

Lol! He doesn't hesitate to take to the highway, does he? I'm thinking the width of the point is what will determine this ones type. I'm an amateur, no doubt. especially on point id. Nice looking find that made my day.

My reasoning behind that guess is MacCorkles are basically unheard of that far east, and the size and base form look different from LeCroy , and other smaller bifurcates found in the area.

The book I'm using shows the distribution pretty close to my location. It would put us just a hair over the cut off.



I do not see why this imaginary line would make finding a MacCorkle here impossible.
