On Wednesday I had to work in Alpena, and on Thursday Manistique. I was able to stop at 18 banks along the way. Banks were visited in Alpena, Rogers City, Cheyboygan, St. Iganace, Naubinway, Engadine and Manistique.

I searched about$1400 in halves. It was nice to replenish my cash at the casino near Manistique (They have the fastest coin counter I have ever seen). Most banks had halves, in teller trays, a few rolls at a time, $290 from a bank in Cheboygan this gave up 1 40%. One bank sold me a bag with $480 in halves that had 3 40% and the Peso. The last 40% half was found in Rogers City.

The banks that sold me the bag of halves also sold me $500 in dimes, this produced the 3 rosies.

At every bank I start by asking for $2 or $3 in cents. This seems to break the ice, I then follow up with. "Do you have any Half Dollar coins? Either loose, in rolls or perhaps in the vault." I ended up searching about $35 in cents and scored 13 wheats (oldest 1929).

The first bank in Alpena gave me $2 in cents and I scored the 1902 Indian Head:hello2:. First one of the year.

I was also able to do some fly fishing on the Two Hearted River, caught two small trout.

Keep on Searching

I vacation up near St. Ignace a lot- never had any luck in the UP. All I ever found was a 40 that looked clad in Mackinac city once- keep posting!

Nice finds!

When we were up north camping two years ago, we hit a few banks for halves, not much luck. We went further and hit Newberry and some smaller towns, I remember one small bank the tellers chuckled "you won't find much" as I left with $30 or so in halves, scored over a dozen 40% from that one.

Great finds. Sounds like a nice work/play road trip.

Love going to the U.P. I used to camp a lot at the mouth of the Two hearted river at Lake Superior. One of the most beautiful beaches anywhere.

HH,

Pete
