Well, Daryl, aka BioProfessor is down here visiting Tybee Island and Savannah, Georgia. We met up on Friday to hopefully hit a site that I heard had produced some decent civil war relics. We made our way to the site only to see about 6 acres of what used to be woods completely torn asunder. All but a few live oaks were left standing and heavy machinery was all about the place. I ask and was denied access to the place and we hit another spot across the way which did not produce too much. I did manage to find a coat button back piece. I am still waiting to find my first intact button!!!
Anyhow, I had family plans all day Saturday and could not make it out but today was a different story. Daryl was to meet me at the site in the morning but I would get there about an hour before him. I started hunting and right off the bat I find a nice 5 inch brass square spike/nail. I was using my Whites MXT and Daryl was letting me use his Super 12" coil (I have to get me one of those!) and I had dug up at least a dozen different beer or soda pop cans and then I got another "buckle" reading at around 72 on my scale, same as the other cans but I have to dig them all up because it would kill me to know I passed one up and it was a real buckle!
Anyhow, the conditions were rough, you had at least 6 inches of heavy mulch and you were walking over branches.
Back to my signal, I start digging and I am thinking "another can" and started to dig deeper and decided to use the hand tool with my Bullseye II pinpointer and found the piece was in the loose dirt and I didn't see any shiny can, nope! I did see a dirty round piece and when I flipped the piece over I knew I can now cross off a U.S. box plate off of my "things to find" list. Check it out, I have more cleaning to do but overall it is a beautiful box plate with one loop still intact.
Daryl also find a keeper but I will let him show and tell it
