I dropped my son off this afternoon for a school field trip at a local Tiger rescue place out in the country. Rather than waste time, I decided to find an old property to detect while I waited. Within 20 minutes I had located a vacant property, asked neighbors who the owner was, found the grandson, and secured permission for not only this trip but future trips. Early 1900's house on 8 acres.
I started digging up mason jar lids like crazy at this place, but eventually made some decent finds in the yard. During my 90 minutes of detecting I think I gave a pint of blood to the #@%& mosquito's and had gnats caked in my eyes and ears. :laughing9:
I dug a beautiful gold gilt general service button with "Fine Quality" back mark. I believe these were 1902 and newer. :icon_scratch:
Next came a Merc dime and numerous wheat pennies (I gave some to the grandson).
Then I dug some very thin coin looking thingy with a hole drilled into it. Any ideas what it is?

Not bad for an hour and a half.
I'll have to spend more time there next time & hopefully the bugs will be gone. ;D
Thanks for looking,
MM

I hope West Nile virus is not catching over the net-LOL. I told you that button looked like "Casper the Friendly Ghost" from your phone pic. That's an outstanding Great Seal button. Nice finds DUG. That site holds promise. Leave it alone until Dman and I get out there. HH, Quindy.

I'll save some for you guys.
I also found a piece that was like a heavy metal you would see tootsie toys made out of. It was a boxie shape had some sort of military symbols on it, but I gave it to the grandson. Kind of wish I would have kept it and cleaned it up now. :BangHead:
Thanks Q,
Dug

Doug you never know when those mason jar lids will have a jar full of money that someone buried attached to it! Nice finds! Not sure what the coin looking thing is but I'm sure someone here will figure it out.

Thanks Rob.
The grandma must have canned like crazy. There were a LOT of mason jar lids around a large tree close to the house. I know there has a be a coin or two amongst them somewhere. :icon_scratch: :laughing9:

Thanks CD.
I hit the silver and three wheats within a 1 ft radius. Possibly a pocket spill, clothesline area, or picnic table area?

Great finds Doug! :icon_thumright:
You did really well for an hour and a half! :notworthy:
Very interesting 'bust' tag . . . is it made of silver?

Dave

Nice work in such a short time. WTG MM.

You found some good stuff. The thing with the hole in it could be part of a necklace.

Thanks Dave.
I don't think it is made of silver due to some corrosion on the back. No idea? :dontknow:

Way to go Doug! You were due for a new site. Great to see you got some good finds on your day of playing hookie. :laughing7:

Was that playing hookie or playing with hookers? :tongue3: :laughing9:
Thanks Mike,
Dug

LMAO! Thanks Joe. I dread the though of having to clean out all those mason jar lids to see what other signals are around that tree. :o

MM :icon_scratch: I remember way back when , my granny wore a charm bracelet with those ??? fake coins :laughing7: cool 8) dawg

Nice finds. Looks very promising. I think your unknown piece is a charm or part of a necklace as stated earlier.

Doug,
Nice finds.

Not sure what kind of mosquitos you have down there but we just got those Asian Tiger mosquitos here in Jersey and they are nasty. They come out day or night and are extremely aggressive. Can't wait until it gets a little cooler to get rid of these buggers.

N.J.,
I am feeling the pain today. I must have 20 bites just on the back of my arms. Mosquitoes love my blood.
I'm waiting on a good cold snap to do those suckers in!
Thanks,
Doug

Thanks TH.
At first I thought it was going to be an old coin because I saw the hole in it, but them I realized it was way too thin.
I believe I'll go with a piece of a charm bracelet too.
