Got out this morning with BedfordBob, DeArmittPA and my son, Mach II for a little relic hunting.... First site was one of Bob's sites, a field that has produced well for him in the past. I went off in a different direction from the rest of the guys in search of a toll house site that I saw on the map...
Well Bob already hit that too in the past
, but I did manage to pull out a flat but plain button and the finial looking item in the pictures.
If anyone has an ID on it that would be great!
We moved on to another site that we researched this winter... was a 1790 homestead/tavern site.
Word is Braddock also camped at this site well before 1790, of course.
We hit it once a few weeks ago, coming away mostly with buttons.
Today we were limited by some light rain... it started about 45 minutes after we arrived. But before getting wet I pulled two Largies... the first is well worn, holed and unknown... perhaps its a Connecticut copper? Bob thought perhaps it was a Spanish copper? Unfortunately, the wear is such that this is the best picture I can get of it.
As the rain started I was awaiting my son to come in from the field (he did not care that it was raining!
) , I got another good hit about 30 feet from the first copper. Out comes another... this one looks at the time to be corroded beyond recognition.
But the peroxide bath and a bit of cleaning revealed a prize - a 1787 New Jersey copper.
Its rough, but I'll take it!
It was a short but great hunt. First multi copper day for me!
