It was a good day spent with good friends. 1854 shield nickel, 1904 Indian head penny and a New York staff cuff size button with Scovill backmark.

The date on the nickel is wrong. They weren't minted until 1866. I tried to get a better shot using my digital microscope but the date is no longer legible, even though I applied a few coats of renaissance wax last night. These coins are bad about deteriorating when exposed to the air. So, now it is a no date shield nickel.

The dates are super small on the sheild nickels. To me your nickel looks like a 1867 variant without the Ray's. They made 2 variants 1 with stars. & 1 with stars & rays.

You are the third person to say 1867 so 1867 it is! Thanks for the help
