Did a hunt today with a friend. These arent my favorite type of artifacts as in material but hey Ill take them as they come. Found some pottery and a couple of points and allot of tools. Most of the tools are called flake tools made from large flakes. These were my finds, HH rock

Man, Rock you find some stuff, you must go everyday. Great finds:icon_thumleft:

What kind of rock are the blue/gray ones? They're very nice. Wonder what the broken quartz piece is...looks worked to me. Love the pottery shards! I tried to find shards all weekend with no luck and it's dark when I get home so no time to look then.

The blue gray is a type of flint. Mostly quartz types around that area. Flint was a rare find for the Indians in that part of GA. All the quartz posted are artifacts and have been worked. The flakes are worked mostly on the edges.
Are you asking about the quartz piece in pic #6? That is a point missing the tip if that is the one.

I could tell #6 was a point but was talking about the last two because I have a couple similar to them and wondering what they might have been. Those are all great finds though.

Well Rock, It sure was pretty up here today. A great day for a hunt, regardless of the finds...you sure found a variety of materials!

Is that a multicomponent site, different time periods???
That first piece looks like a classic paleo end scraper with graver. But of course they made them very similar all through prehistory...but that tool is often diagnostic of paleo tool kit. Would not expect pottery at the same level of a site...
I like that find best!

wow rock you really must be able to do a lot of HH'ing
that quartz must have been tough to work with but i sure looks like very hard material
we don't have that over here

My friends site not mine. We went to a couple of areas. I thought it was a big end scraper and was hoping somebody would say so. Thanks Tom

These 2 ? The first pic is the 2 items together. They are quartz by the way. The last 2 pics are the flat spots where they actually took the pieces off of the mother stone and after knocking them off then altered the edges with secondary flaking to use for tools. You can see on the large one where they did prepare the top for using it as a hand tool so it wouldnt cut their hands. Both of these are hand tools and have been altered. Thanks for the interest, rock

I hope this helps you in your search NCPeaches. These are crude tools and they did make them with what materials they had. Not every tool was a great one. I have found them made out of Schist before in the past. This one I am going to show you has only been altered on one side as a large scraper now that it is dry you can see the edge of it. Its a large flake of quartz and not very pretty but very sharp on the cutting edge. You can see where they thinned it out for the blade.
