Looks like a rock to me but...if you can't get an I.D., there is a thread that starts "need a rock identified", I'm sure that person can I.D. it. Good luck.

Yep, obsidian. I’ve got a few tons of rough in the back yard. The neighbor takes a bit from time to time for knapping.

Past time for more coffee.

I was fairly sure it was obsidian, but ive been told that its not possible where i live and it was more likely to be glass slag. I have ALOT! Most of it is either green or purple.

I will go with glass but not slag. Does not strike me as a slag. If your finding a bunch of other colors of glass that makes me confident.

Well, April, I have not engaged in your posts for just this reason. Did you find this? Yes? Where? Are you picking up a lot of glass slag? Then why are you showing us glass, and asking what it is? Did you not find this where you live? Obsidian is volcanic glass, but is not found east of the Mississippi, unless it was dropped during trade of Native Americans. Don't ask what something is, as then tell us what it is. I don't mind helping people identify anything, in fact I enjoy it. What I DO mind is having my chain jerked for your entertainment.

Uum, i wasnt, i was saying what i thought it was, but i had no idea if i was right or not. I never said i was picking up alot of glass slag, just alot of whatever this was. I honestly wasnt trying to get one over on anyone. I simply asked what you guys thought it was and said that i had thought the same thing, but wasnt sure. Actually, im still not sure, half the people have said obsidian and the other slag. But i apologize for offending anyone, ill just stop asking questions.

Don't sweat it April. I think it's time for me to take a break from here. Ask away. I'll check back in, in a few months.

I'd say very nice glass slag. People buy this stuff these days. From North Carolina, you would not get native obsidian occurring natively.
