Found this large aerial photograph (16x20) in my attic the other day. Looks to be a military base, probably from WWII. Originally belonged to my father's best friend. I believe he was in the Air Force and stationed in Montana after WWII, but not 100% sure of that info. I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me a positive ID as to the name of the base and where it was located. Thanks!

Tim, just my opinion, from the buildings layout, side walks ect, the picture looks more like an early college campus aerial picture than any military bases I was on as a kid when my father was in or when I was in military.

Bummer! Why would anyone go to the trouble of taking an aerial pic of a college campus? Lol!

TH,
Main base was March AFB, Riverside, Ca.
Operating Room Specialist, but missions took me several places during my time--Air evac. during Nam.
Don in SoCal
Never made it to March AFB, I was stationed at Lackland AFB, Lowry AFB , twice at McCoy AFB, twice on Kadena AFB Okinawa, I did stops on Midway Island. We also did short TDY to Anderson on Guam, and Clark AFB in Philippines during typhoon evacuations.

hmmmm... there is no sports field, no stadium.... and not enough cars and parking... plus it seems to be in the middle of nowhere, farm country?...flat land? .... seems purpose built for sure... but over time, as in, it was added to and expanded... we should be able to ID this. Is it American? I think so.

is that a river in the top corner and a small town to the right?

No semi's or heavy equipment or mil anything looking. Research facility?

That structure in the NE ( upper left anyway, no north arrow) quadrant looks a lot like Danvers State Hospital. An old asylum from out east which has been demolished.

How many places were laid out just like that?

Enough to drive ya nuts!

TH,
Lackland (BT only) was memorable for one reason: Lost 42 pounds in 6 weeks.
Wish I was carrying around only that final amount of weight today.
Don in SoCal
I was 5'10, 125 lbs when I went to basic, 145 lbs when I got out of basic, and 165 lbs when I was discharged. I got to 229 lbs when diagnosed diabetic. Last night I weighed 181.

I was also only at Lackland for BT, then Lowry AFB in Denver, it was Tech School where the Intelligence school I attend was at, little over 6 months course, classes 8 hours a day, 5 days a week for 6 months.

The minimum grade for each test was 80% or higher to pass, get below 80% twice you fail the course, there were multiple tests each week plus the final.

If you got below 80% twice on tests you failed the course and you were then sent to a different less desirable tech school.

I got a 78 on one test midway through course so I had to study hard to not get below 80 again. I wanted Intelligence because they had their own photo labs and I loved photography.

Once I passed course and was assigned I asked my commanding officer incharge of the Intelligence office I was in if I could use lab after hours, he told me no problem, the more I learned the better it was. Film was free, photo paper was free, and lab was free. I got where the smallest size I would print was 8×10".

I bought a 35 mm Canon AE1 FTQL as 1st good camera, all the lenses (fish eye, wide lens and 400 mm telephoto lens.

I also bought a Yashika Mat-124, a 2 1/4" × 2 1/4" twin lens reflex camera, really good for portrait pictures, with the 2 1/4 format you could blow pictures up really large due to large negative with out picture falling apart.

I also found it a great way to meet beautiful women, I would walk up to a beautiful girl, tell her how beautiful she was, tell her I was photographer and ask her if I could take some pictures. The ones who said yes about 50%, I would print and give them 8x10"s. I started doing portfolios for girls who were trying to break into modeling.

This is a vintage aerial view of the Louisiana State University (LSU) campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.Key Campus
Features VisibleThe Pentagon Community: The prominent, distinctive pentagonal cluster of buildings located in the center-left section of the photo constitutes the historic LSU Pentagon Barracks dormitories, which were built in the early 1930s.
The Quadrangle: The long, tree-lined open lawn and surrounding academic buildings stretching across the middle section form the heart of the historic campus footprint.

That's what AI would have you believe, but it doesn't bear much resemblance to these pictures of the campus taken in 1938 and 1950 respectively:
