Finally made it back to the river this weekend. My brother has been hunting it when ever he gets free time and once again most everything you see is what he has been finding including the 2 V nickels 188? and the 1890. I managed to find my share of fishing weights, and bullets once again. Already I can't wait to get back out there and hunt some more.

Kevin found this anchor he needs to chime in and give details....I am just posting the pic.

Re: Nueces River Finds***Part 2

Nice looking bottles, cool finds, thanks for sharing.

Re: Nueces River Finds***Part 2

Nice finds, there's folks that'll go wading there and never know you guys saved them from a fish hook in the foot.
Them little chi's are such fun little dogs, 20 lbs. of spirit in a 2 lb. dog.
About the one that doesn't like to be picked up, might try distracting her/him with a pinky nail size piece of a beggin' strip as you pick 'it ' up, and bring them a little higher a little at a time, might have it sittin' on your shoulder in a couple weeks. Once you get her / him to associate being picked up with a tasty tid bit, it'll beg you to pick it up. Best is to start sitting on the floor and go higher slowly, over a couple weeks or whatever the dog tells you.
New guy here. I know this is off subject, if I'm violating 'ettiquette' somebody please let me know.

the little dog is not mean, she just starts growling when you first pick her up wanting to play...dang sharp puppy teeth too!

Re: Nueces River Finds***Part 2

That's a great assortment of 'Stuff I Don't Know What the Heck it is Mostly'!

Are the V-nickels (they're on my wish list. I had a nice 1905 when I was 10 and spent it on gum. Yes, gum was a nickel.) your first pre-1900 coins? They're great, much better shape than most V and Shield nickels I've seen dug; they should clean up nice.

Great hunt!

Nice finds.

anchor complete with christmas lights....j/k

I'm still lookin for my first anchor. Maybe I might go out today....(30 degrees)...maybe.

very nice anchor, I find old net anchors out in the lake all the time. your looks like the real deal. I see I'm not the only lead digger here as well. glad you had a good time and hope you continue to do so.

Damn, no kidding you found fishing weights! I love the anchor, looks pre 1900!

yeah we have found double the amount of fishing weights out there now. We get to the point where we can't put anymore weights in our pouches that day. Yes the anchor is a really neat find, I think it is pre 1900 all the bottles and such we find at the site suggest it could be as early as 1850's. My brother is the one who found the anchor and I keep joking with him regarding the where abouts of the rest of the boat that was once attached to that anchor is. I really enjoy hunting this site because it is still undeveloped and wild much like the way it would of been way back when. You can really imagine and picture the few individuals who hacked out survival in such a place faced with Indian and Mexican raids on a daily basis.
