Headed back to the demolition site where I found the other Silver Dollars. After hunting it with three different detectors, I wasn't expecting much. Got one of those "iffy" signals among the iron trash. Knowing my luck on this site, I decided to dig it. ANOTHER Silver Dollar in as good of a condition as the previous ones. On top of that, I found a V Nickel and a toasted Indian Head Penny.

I can't get over how good this site has been and I haven't even started hunting the curb strip. The curb strip is wide and it is a corner lot. Needless to say, I will be going back. If I don't find another coin at this site I am HAPPY !!

Thanks for addressing the issue in such a professional manner. Other than a little hurt feelings, I can deal with people like that. I tried to explain exactly how these finds came about so everyone could understand the condition and how exciting it was to get a chance to recover so many beautiful coins. I doubt it will ever happen again in my lifetime, but at least I got the chance once. Thanks for all the positive comments and questions about the hunts. Happy Hunting to all !!!

I must be missing a page or something. I don't see anywhere that someone doubted you making the find.

Mine got deleted and I was being for real. I've found them like that before and was being nice about it and mine still got deleted.

Sorry to hear your response got deleted. I don't believe I would have been offended if it was just a comment about the condition of the coins. It was certainly a unique situation and their lack of time in the ground. As a fellow detectorist I can certainly understand having questions. No problems here.

Jealousy? I wasn't being snide or jealous. My original post is on the first page highlighted I think mine got deleted cause I mentioned the luster.

I never read all the posts. But you must be finding those because they fell out of the house during demolition......and they got covered when back filling. WTG.

The house demo and the condition of the coins make for a plausible story. It's so cool you get to find six silver dollars AND they are in such great shape. Excellent finds.

And for the record, I have dug silver coins that I'm quite sure have been in the ground for over 100 years and are in pristine condition still having some lustre.

An 1860s factory was torn down over the summer, just a 5 minute walk from my house! It was an antiques and furniture shop at one point too! Now it is a huge empty dirt filled lot. I have considered metal detecting there, though I am scared of how much trash and metal debris may be there. A friend told me that they found a gold necklace among the wreckage as it was first torn down, without a metal detector. I guess this thread will force me to check out the site, now that I see what can be found!

Also, if a silver coin is dropped in pristine mint condition, and the soil isn't too rough. Mint luster can last for a very long time.

I second the idea on luster being present on coins lost not long after mintage. Have found them before. I don't find a lot of large denomination coins with that much detail a lot of my smaller ones look as if there were dropped fairly soon after being minted.

I have been following your posts recently on your good fortune on finding these beautiful silver dollars. In my few years detecting I have yet to find a silver dollar.
I totally agree with the theory they were cached away in the house unknown to anyone. I too had extremely good fortune at a colonial style home teardown 40+ years after the fact 2 years ago and an unknown squirrel away by a long ago deceased owner has always been my theory, but they were not silver dollars though. Again big congrats to you on your beautiful finds.

I did find Silver Quarters that were clean, but showed their wear. I was surprised to find two 1964 Silver Roosevelt Dimes that were as shiny as if they just came from the mint. At first I thought they were recent dates because they were so pristine.
