O.V.M. Buckle found..... (NEW PHOTOS)

I decided to enjoy the warm weather change in Northern VA this morning, wipe the spider webs off the Tesoro and head out for a few hours..After the first hour of only finding this one bullet, small buckle, & some what-is-its', out popped the Ohio Volunteer Militia buckle !! I had to sit down and stare at it for several minutes in awhh because I certainly was not expecting this to come out of the ground where I was at...

I have not tried to clean it off yet, so this is how it looked when it was dug. I don't have any of the buckle books so I would appreciate any details you veterans could provide me..

Update---

Hey everyone, I was able to clean the buckle up and WOW, what a great brown patina! Here are the newest photos after a little warm water & toothbrush (don't worry, I waited until after my wife brushed her teeth ......

Awesome find, especially for Virginia. A friend of mine found one over a decade ago in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. From what he told me, they are more commonly dug in the western theatre than back east in Virginia.

Congrats on the plate. That is a gem!!

WOW!!!

Waist Belt Plate, Ohio Volunteer Militia, Infantry Enlisted - Excellent, dug medium sized OVM Belt Plate. Great green patina with nice face and 95+% of the lead remains in the back. There is a slight bend to the buckle and the edge of the buckle nearest the O had some rim damage (and has since been repaired), but it displays very nicely and is in great overall condition. Similar to Plate 553 in American Military Belt Plates by O'Donnell & Campbell. pp. 340. - $1,895 - USB070
