Now that I am on my way back to Wi from AZ. I thought I would post my better finds that I have from the area mining camps that I detected, these are from the late 1800's to early 1900's and all around the Oatman AZ area.

Some of the notable finds are

1890 V-Nickel
trade token good for 25 cents in trade

brass engine plate
gold pendent found along the Colorado river Weight... .185 oz.

What does this bottle opener say on it? Can you read it? Technically, it's known as a cap lifter, at least by those who collect such things. It's an old one.

says "wieland beer" on it. Did some research on it & it's pre 1930's how pre I don't know. good eye for picking that out!

Thank you for the info. It's got the Prest-O-lite hole (square hole) so it was made when automobile headlights had to be turned on with a wrench or a "key" like this one, because they ran on acetylene. The crown cap (which was the style of bottle cap that this opener removed from the bottle) was introduced in the late 1800's. So I'm guesstimating your opener is from around 1904 - 1915 or so.

I've dug up a few openers, but mostly I used to buy them. I have hundreds of them, just sitting in a 5 gallon bucket. They are mostly beer openers, in all different styles and shapes. Unlike a collector - somebody who knows all about her/his collection and has them neatly organized - I'm more of a hoarder or accumulator of cap lifters and can piercers. I like them because they are from a bygone era. If you are interested in them, here's a good website.

Wow, thanks for the info & the website, that's real intersting.

Nice finds Seger:)

I have a p-38 opener on my key chain just like the one to the right your engine plate.
Does it have a date on it?
I`m guessing WW2.

It's pretty rusty, but in the area that I found it, I would believe you are correct on the vintage!

I'm a snowbird only cuz I have to be, the wife & I are full time RV'ers. We sold everything we owned last year & started living the good life on the road. we are in our early 40's. So we do some flea marketing & treasure hunting, Right now we are staying at an RV park in NM, but it's on a Indian Reservation so we can't do any metal detecting right now. We are slowly making our way back to WI.

Outstanding. I expectnoless from a fellow Sovereign swinger.

Thanks Civilman, I'm sure you must have found a fair amount of copper & copper artifacts in the U.P. when you lived there, I am looking forward to getting back there.
